Latest DBCBS increase

Post by RobertT »

For anyone who's interested and who hasn't yet seen the latest edition of 'Pensions News', the DBCBS has increased by 6.4% this year.

It aims to at least match the rate of CPI inflation the previous September, which was 3.8%.

Previous years increases were as follows(with CPI in brackets):

2020 – 3.7%(1.7%)
2021 – 1.7%(0.5%)
2022 – 4.6%(3.1%)
2023 – 11.3%(10.1%)
2024 – 6.7%(6.7%)
2025 – 3.7%(1.7%)

So am i correct ? If you take your pension early and lose 5% of your pension ( for every year ) , you'll also lose quite a very decent percentage rise on what should hopefully be a large sum. ? Thats quite a loss for some. You'd have to get a amazing return on investment to beat that. I remember the bloke who took the lot early and put it in Premium Bonds 😆

I don't think we can complain too much considering CPI is the benchmark.

Interestingly, Pensions News says the surplus has reduced between 2024-2025.
It's still a huge amount of money, but perhaps not as huge as some would like to think.

The updated(from 1st March 2026) RMPP calculator, suggests the early payment reduction for their Age65 benefits is no longer the widely used 5% per year.
Take it at 60 and it's a 32% hit!

I don't know if the same applies to RMSPS benefits!

The Cash Balance reduces by a lower figure – somewhere in the region of 1.4% per year.

I can understand that. Everyone is different etc etc. But if you can afford it you can leave the pension untouched , even if you leave. Some people will take the hit , but it is more than just an early exit fee especially if taken very early.
