I'm a reserve who has been with the company for 2 years and know 7 duties. I know as a reserve i'm going to have to cover... my complaint is that I'm covering other reserves who have been with the company for 6 - 9 months who have seemingly been on the same duty the entire time. So basically they have the continuity and stability of being on the same duty, but I get moved / rotated constantly to cover their day off or annual leave. Seniority doesn't seem to play a part at all.
Where is the fairness here? To be honest, I feel like a spare part / being used. Does anyone think it's worth going to the union about this? Every time I have to cover one of the duties, there are days worth of mail and stacks of D2Ds that haven't been touched. All the duties are van shares and heavy town routes. I know both sides on 6 of the duties.

Re: Reserve covering other reserves of less seniority
I would imagine that the duties the other reserves are on have been vacated and have no permanent duty holder possibly and the manager has basically just got a bum on a seat so to speak.
But are you saying you'd want one of those duties or just more stability in general?
The management might just be keeping their powder dry if/until one of these new ways of working comes in, because there should be a whole office repick based on seniority if/when it happens. Doesn't mean you'd get one of those particular duties or a permanent walk.
Often it happens that as you seem to be doing a decent job of covering that's how a manager will (ab)use you. It's the path of least resistance for them.
It's all up in the air at the moment because of the potential incoming new ways of working.

Re: Reserve covering other reserves of less seniority
Yeah the duties have been vacated.i don't necessarily want one of the duties, I just feel singled out. It does feel like I am being abused to be honest. Not many people want to be moving around constantly so why should it only be me? I'd much rather stay on something for a longer period of time. If other people are, why not me? It's not like I'm getting any benefits. If anything, I'm losing as sometimes they schedule one person of a van share to be in earlier to prep the frames, and that's always the person who is usually on those duties, not me. So effectively they're having an easier time through stability and getting slightly more pay.yellowbelly wrote: ↑Yesterday, 21:10I would imagine that the duties the other reserves are on have been vacated and have no permanent duty holder possibly and the manager has basically just got a bum on a seat so to speak.

Let the manager know you're looking to find a job elsewhere. Tell them you like the job in general but feel you getting a raw deal. . If they have any sence theyll be more reasonable. They shouldn't want to lose a decent worker. You sound to good for your own good. They usefully keep useless new posties on one job if they can .

Congratulations, you've revealed yourself to be competent. Now the weight of the office will rest on your shoulders, both metaphorically and literally, unless you throw your toys out the pram. It's childish and pathetic but it's the only language that will be understood.
The machine stops.

do you actually complain to your manager about how your feeling ??? we have a couple in our office who had same issues put on walks with days of mail but said nothing ,so it keeps on happening like yourself . but as above start kicking off a bit see how it goes because they can't afford to lose decent workers.Mr Rush wrote: ↑Yesterday, 22:50Congratulations, you've revealed yourself to be competent.
