Got my Rohans on Thursday. They're the most comfortable trainers I've had uniform wise. Very spongy under the heel and wide around the toes

On return yesterday one of our posties binned his brand new Rockfall trainers after just one day & went home in his socks, phoned in sick this morning chafing, blisters & bleeding feet, I've seen the photos

Why do Royal Mail do everything on the cheap?

Why not team up with Sketchers, Merrell, Solomon & supply us with some decent footwear

I'm back to wearing currently-issued footwear for the Summer (because I'm not ablating my DM's soles any more than I need to). The pain in my heel that alleviated three years ago when I stopped wearing the modern garbage is back

I might add, it's entirely feasible to resurrect old uniform items. Most of the 1985-1999 uniform was rebranded Air Force gear which is still in production.

If you need a wider toe box, the banderas. I have ruined my feet wearing the cushion flex for a couple months.

I know I'll get some slack for buying my own kit but I have bought my old shoes off ebay for at least the last 7 years. No grief from managers when I point out that my gtx vibram soled walking shoes are better suited for the job and when I'm spending £10- £20 a pair every six to twelve months I don't mind. I no longer have any foot problems caused by crap footwear just the miles covered. Merrell do indeed provide the best arch support for most but if you can't afford shoes try a decent foot bed.

Which shoes are you buying ? Our manager isn't bothered with people wearing trainers etc a few swear by hoka trainers but they're quite expensive

I'm buying second hand Merrells as I know their sizing is accurate and the best arch support and enough width across my toes. GTX tend to be waterproof and breathable. Everybodies feet are different but I would be aiming for a decent branded outdoor shoe e.g. Solomon, Scarpa Berghaus etc. Mutisport shoes are best all-rounders. Look for a solid outer sole pref vibram for durability with a decent depth mid sole for shock/impact especially under the heel. That's the squishy bit. Also twist the shoe to check for overall flexibility. Some shoes have a solid piece built in that you can't see. Too much twist = too flexible no movement= too rigid. Running shoes tend to have too much squishy and not enough solid sole meaning they can wear down quicker doing the miles we do. If buying new always wear around the house for several days to break them in.
