Has anyone successfully had their unpaid annual leave approved?

Still not had my unpaid leave approved/responded to...

The 2 weeks a/l that I normally purchase on top of my standard a/l has still not been approved..

Having applied as normal in September, only to have the goal posts moved a few months later, then to be told in early Feb that I didn't qualify for poal anymore, but was still entitled to the 2 weeks, but as unpaid annual leave, so my paperwork would go in on 1st April.

14th April my paperwork had still not even been looked at..

My 2 weels unpaid a/l, early may and late June...

I have, and im taking my first week of alu in a few days

I did have to remind my manager about it though as they had put me down to work that week

I was really annoyed at the beginning of the year, as for the first time, I was planning to make use of buying an extra week or so of annual leave under salary sacrifice (POAL), as I was in a position to do so, only to be told by the website I wasn't eligible (like nearly everyone, I understand).

So, this "unpaid leave" business. Is it like the old salary sacrifice thing, where you could only apply during a certain window (February I believe), or can this be requested on an ad hoc basis at any time during the year? And, does it have to be done a minimum period in advance?

I'm probably just raising my hopes unnecessarily, as most of the time at our place, we're told there aren't enough slots when you want to even book off a single day from your unused holiday entitlement.

A note for anyone asking for unpaid annual leave:

For the year 25/26 I took unpaid annual leave to go on a long holiday. Which was fine. However when it comes to this year 26/27 I have had hours taken off my leave as because I was off on unpaid leave I didn't 'work' the full 12 months of the previous year and should only have received a pro-rata amount of holidays for that year. I would check whether there would be a negative effect on the following year holiday entitlement as you may end up losing a day or 2 from the 27/28 holiday allocation.

It can be done anytime in the year though im not sure how much advance notice they would want
