Don’t know about another offices but worryingly there are quite a few singleton duties in ours who see this deal as a great chance to a) just do half your duty everyday and b) get a much better attendance pattern than currently. Even when explained to them that a delivery will be 6 hours minimum with some patterns (most of these guys are 4 hours now) they don’t think it will affect THEM.

Why would I vote yes on a system that has not been mentioned or explained in any way in my office by my rep or manager.

Do I know what shift pattern I will be working? No
Do I know if I will stay on my duty? No
Do I know if there will be a resign? No

It's a no vote from me and I can't see why anyone would vote yes until they have more information at a local level to persuade them that DM26 is a good deal

Work will have to be allocated before the rurals etc leave the DO, similar to lapsing, as they if they wait for them to return to the DO then they'll think of every excuse going not to get back early.

The worst thing is, the CWU have wasted so much time on this - almost 18 months - that they could have had a proper warts and all type of revision in every office in the land in that time.
The not-so-popular-truth in all of this is that with properly sized, fair duties the ODM would stand a good chance of working. A duty with 2 days worth of 2C mail does not, under any circumstances take 2 x the time to deliver. That was extremely poorly communicated. Call rate typically went up about 20%. Plan delivery times on 2 days average mail, make Mondays and Tuesdays 30-40 minutes longer than rest of week to account for the 3 days mail. Some offices would have to make their delivery time a bit longer, some probably stay around the same, some would be shorter than they are to accommodate the extra letters. Instead they are just hoping that we all sort this out locally. Not a chance.

This has been my thoughts on the situation too, they are trying to be too clever instead of making duties manageable on 2 days mail.

I can't see you can blame the CWU when they've been trying to agree some kind of deal for 18 months, and there's no way RM would agree to a revision which meant them having to employ more staff if the duties were reduced in size.

What about the introduction of approx 3500 duties and making a load of folk up to full time, it doesn't fit.
