As was the case on Monday access to all the Belgian post office Bpost’s distribution centres in Brussels remains blocked by striking postal workers.

On Thursday Bpost announced that it had reached an agreement with the unions about its plans to change postal staff’s working hours. However, this announcement proved to be premature and the union say that further negotiations are required and they need time to inform their members about the progress of the talk so far.
On Friday some postal workers continued their strike. In Brussels all Bpost’s distribution centres remained closed and no letters or parcels were able to be delivered. In Wallonia mail was delivered on around 15% of rounds, while in Flanders around 96% of post office delivery staff turned up for work.
On Monday the strike entered its 4th week. In Brussels all distribution centres remained blocked by pickets. In Wallonia mail was delivered on around 45% of the post and parcel rounds. In Flanders around 93% of delivery staff turned up for work. The lion’s share of Flemish strikers were in Limburg province.
There was a further meeting between Bpost management and the trade unions on Monday. The unions will put the management’s proposal to their members. On Tuesday pickets continued to block the Bpost distribution centres in the Brussels-Capital Region.
