Question about the "pipeline"

Post by Kenfandango »

I'm aware all DO's are different so this may not be the case everywhere....

Since Christmas we've had a phenomena (and management have commented on it, as annoyed by it as we are) where Saturday, Monday and Tuesday we only receive the T24 packets with a handful of 48s, then on Wednesdays we get all the non-tracked (stamped, 1st/2nd, foreign) packets in one big wave along with what looks like 2-3 days of T48 and the 24's for the day. We also get all the Magazines (including the Radio Times which is meant to be Tuesdays) in crates on a wednesday.

Thursday and Friday packet levels are the expected volume for the walks/time of year, mixed types.

Additionally Wednesday and Friday we get 2-3 crates of mech, making Wednesday completely unmanageable on almost every walk (the company loses money on the tracked, but we are the ones getting it in the ear from people that their overpriced magazines are showing up late.)

Is this across the country? Is it deliberate? The MC tried blaming Eid this week and our COM could be heard saying "it wasn't Eid for the last 3 months though!"

That's a bit weird, at inward MCs 1C and 2C, T24 and T48 are all sorted together, we don't keep them separate. There must be some issue upstream of your local MC.

That'll be the DTS, loads of mail on Tuesday and Thursday nights either hitting the time limit or being released when there's other mail being released for the same DPs

DTS no longer seems fit for purpose as on Mondays and Tuesdays we hardly get any mail, Wednesdays & Thursdays a full tray then 1½ plus on Friday.

Friday is the 5th day, release day for the machines, so everything is released that hasn't previously been released.

Isn't that dependant on the day the customer posted the items ? Or is it the norm that we accept bulk mailings on a specific day (so it's 1st due delivery is Monday) which would explain why it that happens.

SP may be able to provide more insight, but I'd imagine the organisations that do the printing/preparing get it done in the week and hand it over to RM at the end of the week/weekend so I'd say your second sentence is correct.

For DSA it's purely down to when they hand it over to RM and which DSA service they used (DSA 1st Class, DSA 3 day, DSA 5 day).

We get the most MECH on a Friday, which must be released on Thursday evening? I can't see that arrives on a Saturday, or is that mostly the 3 day DSA which DK referred to yesterday?
