Royal Mail apologise for Basingstoke delivery disruptions

Royal Mail deliveries have been disrupted in Basingstoke, prompting apologies from the postal service.

Tens of thousands of residents across the RG21, RG22, RG23, RG24, RG25, RG26, and RG28 postcode areas have been warned that they may experience delayed mail due to "resourcing issues" at the Basingstoke Delivery Office in Priestley Road.

Royal Mail said: "We're sorry to advise that deliveries in parts of the RG21 - RG26 and RG28 postcode areas may be disrupted due to resourcing issues at the Basingstoke Delivery Office.

"We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause, and thank you for your understanding.

"We'll be back in touch to inform you when the resourcing issues have improved."

It comes after Basingstoke Gazette reporter Jasmine Kelly tested whether packages were being prioritised over letters after repeated resident complaints.

She found that a first-class letter posted at the same time as a first-class package arrived a day later, despite both reaching the delivery office together.

Royal Mail maintains that "the vast majority of mail is delivered on time."

The company said 76 per cent of first-class mail in the RG postcode area arrives the next working day.
