Tenbury MP complains to Royal Mail as deliveries delayed

WEEKS' worth of post has been delivered all at once to one Tenbury home, while others have been left without any post at all as major issues continue to hit Royal Mail deliveries.

Tenbury Town Council has said it has received numerous complaints regarding the postal service being provided to residents in the town and surrounding areas.

In one example of the postal service, a resident had no mail at all for weeks, then 26 letters all at once, a council spokesperson said.

The council has written to the local MP to ask her to raise the issue with the chief executive officer of the Royal Mail.

The MP for West Worcestershire, Dame Harriett Baldwin said: “I have been appalled at the continuing crisis within the local post delivery network and have shared concerns from all over the constituency with the chief executive at Royal Mail."

Tenbury Wells residents have reported to the council that mail is being delivered on average once a week - if they are lucky.

In a letter the council said: " This is making residents anxious and upset due to creating serious issues such as missed or late notification of medical appointments including operations.

"Many residents rely on the postal service to keep in touch with family and friends and to receive birthday cards three weeks after their birthday is disappointing.

"Other issues highlighted is next day signed for delivery arriving two weeks later in the normal post."

Dame Harriett said: " It is clear that the company is in denial about this problem, and I am planning to meet with senior directors to hear what they are doing to improve local services as swiftly as possible.”

A Royal Mail spokesperson said in February that "adverse weather" including named storms, along with higher-than-usual sick absence had caused some short-term disruption to certain routes.

It added that, where delays do affect a route, it will move to bring in extra support to “restore deliveries as quickly as possible”.

It won't be holding 26 letters back for the 5th day?
