Q. Ooh, how do you manage to wear your shorts in the cold weather? A. My longs are too tight and make me sweat:waveValentina@1 wrote: ↑25 Jan 2026, 07:56Longs & shortsSmoothbackground wrote: ↑25 Jan 2026, 03:59Wasn’t it vaguely referred to as “heavy and light” or suchlike? I have no real clue as to the specifics…yellowbelly wrote: ↑24 Jan 2026, 22:51I think I asked this question before on a previous thread but 1. Can't find it and 2. Remember if anyone knew what this alternative approach was.The current status of our counter proposal is that Royal Mail has neither rejected or accepted our alternative approach, although there are some signs that the company may now be willing to reach an agreement on the basis of what we have put forward.
Does anyone know what the 'alternative approach' is?

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

I blame this on offices which weren’t trial offices, being given zero information about the ODM. They weren’t at the meetings where the horror stories were told, they weren’t witnessing the car crash.
In that scenario of ignorance, it was very easy for offices to go along with the horror show because they don’t know any better until they find out for themselves.

It seems more likely now that the company will bring their version in by executive action and therefore the union will be forced to ballot us on industrial action, it’s my view that we might lose the vote for all out strike so we should be telling the union to ask both questions ie
1. Are you prepared to participate in strike action
2 Are you prepared to participate in industrial action short of strike
I reckon we could do more damage on option 2 but I would still strike

It's similar in our DO but that's down to RM cutting staff numbers by not replacing staff who so that management have no alternative but to send out post on alternative days.

What would industrial action short of a strike entail?geordieboy123 wrote: ↑23 Feb 2026, 17:44It seems more likely now that the company will bring their version in by executive action and therefore the union will be forced to ballot us on industrial action, it’s my view that we might lose the vote for all out strike so we should be telling the union to ask both questions ie

That’s not industrial action, that’s doing your job to contract. I’d be all for that. Sadly, there are those who would take the attitude that they could bag all the overtime they wanted.claretandblue wrote: ↑23 Feb 2026, 19:29Overtime ban.Barnacle wrote: ↑23 Feb 2026, 19:02What would industrial action short of a strike entail?geordieboy123 wrote: ↑23 Feb 2026, 17:44It seems more likely now that the company will bring their version in by executive action and therefore the union will be forced to ballot us on industrial action, it’s my view that we might lose the vote for all out strike so we should be telling the union to ask both questions ie

You have to ballot for it or else management will call it unofficial industrial action.Barnacle wrote: ↑23 Feb 2026, 19:32That’s not industrial action, that’s doing your job to contract.
