Have a few PHG’s still knocking about, i thought it was “Postal Higher Grade” and they used to get paid the extra for being keyholders and opening and locking up etc.

From what i have heard there used to be an uplift for working in the SD locker in the mail centre but it was done away with years ago.
(average item count for MC SD locker is 3500-4000 per shift x 3)

If a number of people are going for a vacancy of the PHG job is it based on seniority?

There's no such thing anymore as a PHG role/title/duty/job. Do you mean a duty working in your DO's SD locker?
Yes that’s what people mean when they say it

Most still call them PHGs
Only time i hear phg is on here.
Everyone in my DO still calls the guy in the callers office the PHG

Maybe we are one of the exceptions right enough
Still called phg in ours as well but we also call the delivery supplement the d2d payment😃

If the foreign specials ever went back to being processed as Tracked (don't see why they can't now as they'd be scanned to a york/sleeve anyway now, which would be scanned at the DO and all the items in that york/sleeve would automatically be deemed to have arrived at the DO) then the item count in SD lockers in MCs would drop like a stone.

I can never understand how a small packet from China, probably worth a £1 or so, as to go via the locker!

By being disrespectful and rude I just asked a civil question and I don’t know what pwrfc is

The foreign specials got moved to lockers because DOs were constantly failing the scans of them.

Woah thats quite aggressive.

Ok, the PHG role does not exist, but it is an understood term within Royal Mail; it's like we call ourselves Posties, but there is no such title in Royal Mail. Should I expect you to use original and formal designations in all posts, or is it acceptable to use known and well-understood colloquial names for anything?

Must be that time again that I need to remind people of the rules. Do not attack the people; attack their argument. More than one person failed to do that. So thread locked, and members are reminded to read and follow the rules.

The main rule I will remind you about is that if you cause trouble on here and it's easier to ban you than to keep dealing with the mess you cause, we will.
