How much difference did it make time wise in DOs back when we first started sequencing all the mech mail?ted_e_bear wrote: ↑15 Feb 2026, 08:33At our local Evri "DO" down here in Yorkshire they're loading their cars at about 10.30, I wonder if they run a day behind up your way, oh yeah reminiscing again I remember the crewbus, leaving the office at 7, in summer before it got too hot was great, no chance these days it's bloody hot when we get there.

Good question as I can't actually remember/put a figure on it, probably quite a bit as back then it was usual for two trays per duty plus don't forget the duties were shorter so less addresses, these days not so much as it's usually possible to get the first and only tray prepped in about 10mins assuming the fitting isn't stuffed with d2ds or previous days mail, probably add about 5 mins if it's unsequenced (for someone familiar with the duty)SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑15 Feb 2026, 09:16How much difference did it make time wise in DOs back when we first started sequencing all the mech mail?ted_e_bear wrote: ↑15 Feb 2026, 08:33At our local Evri "DO" down here in Yorkshire they're loading their cars at about 10.30, I wonder if they run a day behind up your way, oh yeah reminiscing again I remember the crewbus, leaving the office at 7, in summer before it got too hot was great, no chance these days it's bloody hot when we get there.
Oh yeah we had someone trying to gaslight us that vertical prep would be great as you're not moving from side to side when prepping but as it only applies to the minimal amount of mech mail we get these days we pointed out that's utter bollocks.

Were the walks updated way more frequently on A+ (what's now Route Planner) back then? When we get a bulk posting like Council Tax (which must be due through fairly soon anyway) some walks get a thick wad of mail between the yellow and blue cards, them items the machine has enough info to know what walk to sort them to but doesn't know where the DPs go in the sequence.ted_e_bear wrote: ↑15 Feb 2026, 09:39Good question as I can't actually remember/put a figure on it, probably quite a bit as back then it was usual for two trays per duty plus don't forget the duties were shorter so less addresses, these days not so much as it's usually possible to get the first and only tray prepped in about 10mins assuming the fitting isn't stuffed with d2ds or previous days mail, probably add about 5 mins if it's unsequenced (for someone familiar with the duty)SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑15 Feb 2026, 09:16How much difference did it make time wise in DOs back when we first started sequencing all the mech mail?ted_e_bear wrote: ↑15 Feb 2026, 08:33At our local Evri "DO" down here in Yorkshire they're loading their cars at about 10.30, I wonder if they run a day behind up your way, oh yeah reminiscing again I remember the crewbus, leaving the office at 7, in summer before it got too hot was great, no chance these days it's bloody hot when we get there.

Tbh I've no idea, when I first applied it was drummed in that I'd be working as part of a team, when I actually started it soon became apparent that in a do the only aim for management is to get you out of the door on delivery, no teamwork at all unless you count doing the ips, any questions/suggestions anything is met with disregard, I'm too busy, leave it with me or come and see me later.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑15 Feb 2026, 11:42Were the walks updated way more frequently on A+ (what's now Route Planner) back then? Re: The "How was your day" thread.
I was actually trying to remember this. My only experience of indoor work before P&L was when PT prepped their own duties on Saturdays (0645 start, as part of the FT shorter attendance). Assuming you knew the frame, it used to take about 45 minutes to prep a duty.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑15 Feb 2026, 09:16How much difference did it make time wise in DOs back when we first started sequencing all the mech mail?
After sequencing came in with P&L in 2011, I recall being asked to come in an hour early to prep my duty. There was usually two trays and it almost certainly saved time, though I can't remember by how much. I think it still took quite a while because doing the top row was very tiring on the arm. Whatever time it saved was not a gain for us as we didn't get out the door any earlier since the start times got pushed back.
Callrates are so low now I don't know that there's much advantage in sequencing it. Some of the sequences are so screwed up you're on the verge of doing the old dance at the frame. I find myself frequently standing there tapping a letter trying to find the next address (one letter every thirtieth door, it being looped rather than straight-through, the sequence being wrong, it being a vertical frame, etc).
The machine stops.

Re: The "How was your day" thread.
The sequence being wrong is very likely 100% down to the DO. No one has updated the Route Planner data when changes have been made to the walks. When the sort plans are being written for the machines the data in Route Planner is used so if that data is wrong then the sort plans will be wrong.Mr Rush wrote: ↑15 Feb 2026, 21:23Callrates are so low now I don't know that there's much advantage in sequencing it. We had a long WTLL session where an update on the talks was presented.
A lot of metrics explaining why the trial offices were actually outperforming other offices in their area.

The only way I could believe the ODM was a relative (not absolute) improvement in QoS is if all the other offices beside the trial units were performing apocalyptically poorly. The list of failing offices does not corroborate that!clashcityrocker wrote: ↑27 Feb 2026, 06:02We had a long WTLL session where an update on the talks was presented.

They should be done by trading standards for claiming that the ODM is a roaring success. It could have been better. Delays to the last lorry resulted in 120 staff waiting an extra 40 mins. That's a lot of loops that could have been completed today. We should be cutting off and tying up much earlier.

Good lord, I was at an address that still had their Christmas decorations up. I've seen that same address in the past with their Christmas tree up on the 1st of November, so potentially that's four and a half months and counting of festivities.
