POLL for POAL
Seems that nearly everyone is ineligible for Purchase of Annual Leave that opened up today. Only option is to apply for Additional Leave Unpaid, however won't this make us worse off as it's not tax free and doesnt have the same protections as annual leave? Shouldn't the union be looking into this?

Re: POLL for POAL
Additional leave unpaid is also only allowed in two day blocks.
Looks like we've been stitched up again

Re: POLL for POAL
There was a huge safety margin built into the calculations to cover any wage fluctuations over the year (sick etc)

Re: POLL for POAL
Near impossible to get an annual leave day off as it is, no chance management will gibe unpaid time.
The whole thing is farcical and agin the union is silent

Re: POLL for POAL
I just filled in the form for ALU, the notes to the manager on the bottom of the form
In emboldened text state that it is 'recommended ' that only 2 days in any pay period are taken to avoid a significant reduction in pay...wtf?
I'm in my mid fifties ffs! I think I'm capable of budgeting My finances in advance of some unpaid a/l..
I'm a 3 day float, so I'd be losing 2 days pay anyway,
'Recommended', what does that even mean?
The manager advises you of the loss of pay that week, or makes a financial decision on your behalf, despite not knowing your finances..

Re: POLL for POAL
I think the idea is you have six weeks off but spread your unpaid element out so it's not so much of a hit to have a full week off with no pay, I'd imagine it's assuming most people do a five day week.sardonicus wrote: ↑09 Feb 2026, 21:26I just filled in the form for ALU, the notes to the manager on the bottom of the form

Re: POLL for POAL
The problem with this is let's say, you have 5 weeks annual leave entitlement and buy 1 week. If you took 1 day unpaid for every weeks holiday up to 6, that would be a day where average holiday pay wouldn't be paid either as it's only paid on 4 weeks out of the 6 every year. It looks like it might be designed to make more savings for the company.ted_e_bear wrote: ↑10 Feb 2026, 06:55I think the idea is you have six weeks off but spread your unpaid element out so it's not so much of a hit to have a full week off with no pay, I'd imagine it's assuming most people do a five day week.sardonicus wrote: ↑09 Feb 2026, 21:26I just filled in the form for ALU, the notes to the manager on the bottom of the form

Re: POLL for POAL
Good point, forgot about that yeah for those who qualify it's yet another kick, I suppose the way to go is take the extra as completely unpaid that's what I'd do if I had to, (I understand it's more difficult for some to budget though compared to such as us oldies)The Postman wrote: ↑10 Feb 2026, 09:27The problem with this is let's say, you have 5 weeks annual leave entitlement and buy 1 week. Re: POLL for POAL
yeah i dont qualify, got a good idea how to qualify , leave the union takes off the union payments might just do the trick, so i can get to purchase annual leave, waste of time having to pay for the union, problem solved more ways than one

Removing the union subscription payment would have zero effect on the calculationpostmanplod2026 wrote: ↑10 Feb 2026, 20:31yeah i dont qualify, got a good idea how to qualify , leave the union takes off the union payments might just do the trick, so i can get to purchase annual leave, waste of time having to pay for the union, problem solved more ways than one
