The CWU do nothing to fix this. Local and regional reps seem to have more of a rapport with the managers than the posties because they spend a more time with the managers than the posties. They get to know managers more personally, whereas a rep in charge of a large office of posties will know very little about half of their members.

Just wait until we have double or triple mail each and every day when the USO changes come in.... it's going to become insanely toxic.
And? Couldn’t give a bollocks if there was 10x mail, finish times remain the same. The only people putting stress on workers is themselves. Work to your time and do what you can do, it’s simple.
Easy for you to say, you obviously have the kind of personality that relishes having a stand up debate/argument with a DOM every day when you go to tell them you can't complete.

Some people don't have the capacity to engage in that level of conflict and confrontation day in day out and nor should they be expected to.
There is no debate if you work to your time. They can’t do a thing about it. If people can’t even do that for themselves, then it doesn’t surprise me that they are walked over. These are probably the same people 🤡 walking into work 30 minutes before their time for free as well.

People not wanting to have a stand up argument with their DOM every day and the idiots prepared to work for free are two completely seperate issues.

Have they sold their souls to Satan ?
There's an statistically anomalous number of people in big business and finance, as well as politics, who exhibit the hallmarks of sociopathy (the dark triad). So I'll answer with a question in turn: they had one to give?
The machine stops.

You only need one argument, you politely say that every conversation you have with them will be recorded on your phone & they won’t want to come near you unless absolutely necessary!

DOMs don’t even care about any mail that isn’t 1st class, it’s not a priority on their scorecards and we can fail as much as we like.

It's fair to say that the CWU are much better at explaining management's decisions than it does at challenging them. Some of these reps spend a lot of time in meetings rather than on walks so they never have to live with the consequences. In particular, CWU HQ often sound like they have been brainwashed by senior management when they subtly pressure their members into accepting worse terms. When a Union says "it's not what we wanted, but it's the best we could get" or "the company have made it clear that this is the only offer on the table" is more of a managed retreat rather than a negotiation. A trade union doesn't lose its credibility by losing fights - it loses it when it looks like it's managing acceptance rather than leading any sort of resistance....

And work related stress is very common in RM. It's half blind to suggest that posties should just work to their time when duties are already oversized and the number of parcels plus all the other additional tasks on top makes completing everything within their paid hours a complete impossibility. Not everyone wants daily conflicts with managers which wears people down, creating anxiety and a bullying culture which ironically leads to some staff then seeking shortcuts by coming in to work early unpaid or working through their breaks simply because they don't want the grief. It is often the case when pressure is passed down the chain and targets matter more to the business than its people.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

The trouble with the job is it is still held in high regard and people still care for it

It's a glorified leaflet distributor mixed with Yodel. Competition is happy to pay below minimum wage for gig economy T&C's for similar results.

Mail is a dying concept - how much of it now isn't advertising? And how little regard is given to the advertising we are paid to deliver weekly?

Come in, do your hours and go home. If it's not good enough you'll be unfairly dismissed, get a payout and actually be happier working for a supermarket delivering online shops for similar money and less stress.

How many people need to be pushed to work related stress, suicide attempts before the company think, oh s**t somethings wrong here.

I've been in the job for longer than i care to admit, and seen the gradual decline in the company, but never to the extreme it's got nowadays.

New staff don't stay. Older staff are at breaking point. It's already toxic.

The place is a disgrace, and if the media knew half of what was going on.
. So why dsnt Dave Ward shout all this to the rooftops! ? Get on your media soapbox and bloody go for it mr Ward !!!

They'd probably pull some line like you're not permitted to record audio on RM premises in the same way as you can't take photos, a few years ago one of our lads told the managers I'm recording my conversations with you because I've got a bad memory
