CWU neutered themselves by not acting on the strike mandate years ago. Everyone knows it.
I don't get why people get so surprised about deals dragging on and agreements unable to be made, not aimed at anyone on here, just a general observation.

Neither the union or Royal Mail can afford strike action imo.

Royal Mail can’t bring strike breakers in this time but I’m not sure the union would get the backing and I don’t think either party want to find out.

Like someone has said on here that a heavy and light method was agreed but the equalisation part wasn’t and I’ve also been told this.

I think the outcome will be the heavy and light method coming in and some sort of agreement on a flight path to equalisation.

It really would be stupid by both parties if we’re in the position of strike action yet again.

Did the CWU ever publish, in detail, what their counter ODM was?

In detail: 'Longs and shorts as a van pairing' - that was pretty much it. Two walks, one day you take everything on one walk and just priority on the other, next day swap it round.

It was called ''heavy and light''

Longs and shorts is a different thing - thats to do with longer and shorter attendance i.e shorter day Tuesday longer day Thursday which has been a RM thing in many offices for years

Yeah no chance, I'm assuming it's a regular two people pairing doing the whole of one duty and "priority" of the other, plus 25% of another duty between them, (an eighth each =12.5%) that's hardly saving anything, if it's an eighth between them then that's just silly

As others are saying, even with taking a bit from a lapsed duty, there is no saving, and i'm amazed (but not really) that the CWU thought that was a worthwhile proposal. They really do seem out of touch with how things work at DO level.

Part of me thinks that the CWU know this is coming in regardless and they just want to delay as long as possible.

Most offices have duties which are far too large, newbies don't last the course, due to pay, conditions and general treatment.

If RM bring ODM in without compromise and it causes offices up and down the UK to go into meltdown would you have rather the CWU hadn't tried to avoid the situation?

Should the CWU not attempt to influence the way RM is run or should it just react to things after changes have been implemented?

Of course the CWU should try and mitigate changes etc, but their ideas seem totally out of touch. They didn't even realise that thousands of their members don't drive at the start of the ODM trials.

At the end of the day you can go into work tomorrow and your manager can give you an instruction, he can tell you to take out 3 walks, if it is a reasonable request you have to do it, at the end of the day it is likely you will just bring two back. You have a start time and a finish time. I have no idea of what the union means by heavy and light but if one man /woman cannot complete one delivery in a day then they are not going to complete one and a bit deliveries. Unfortunately, it is the packets / parcels that are the issue, there are just so many, that is a good thing for the company as it is more revenue but knocking on doors takes longer than poking a few letters through a letter box, factor in, the person is not in so they expect you to try all the neighbours and then of you still fail you have to take it back tomorrow for a 2nd go which just adds to the problem tomorrow. I'm glad I don't have to sort the s**t out.

No, the union conducted information gathering before the trials to determine how many non-drivers existed. I think what was in question was exactly how many non-drivers remained since the introduction of P&L, when that data would likely have last been determined. It's less than 10% currently, most probably twice that in 2015.
