"Royal Fail" postal delays causing 92-year-old's stress

AN ANGRY man has branded the postal service the "Royal Fail" claiming postal delays are causing stress for his elderly father.

Ian Hood, 59, of Albert Road, Worcester, claims he and his father have both experienced significant delays in receiving their post, including his 92-year-old father not receiving rotas from his carers on time despite them being sent in a timely manner.

Mr Hood, who spent 25 years working in local government and also worked for the NHS, said: "It is just ridiculous. Since October-time, it has just been abysmal.

"My elderly father has had issues with important post not arriving.

"The company the cares for him four days a week, their head office is in Evesham and they post rotas out so he knows who is coming in on his visits for personal care. The rotas haven’t been arriving.

"They are very good – I’m not criticising the care company.

"It does make it more stressful because he worries if he doesn’t get his rota. I’ve seen how he has been getting stressed out and I think it is probably transmitted through to me.

"It is frustrating because you know the Royal Mail is at fault for it. I think they should be renamed Royal Fail at the moment."

While worrying for his father, Mr Hood said he has also felt the effects of delays himself.

"I know something was posted to me by the bank on November 30," he said. "It has never arrived.

"I feel for people missing medical bills, medical appointments of passports, because what the hell is going on?

"People have almost got failure fatigue in a way. They are so used to things going wrong that they are almost accepting of it. It’s a shame really."

A spokesperson for The Royal Mail said: "We understand how concerning delays to letter deliveries can be, particularly for people who rely on the post for essential information.

"Deliveries have continued in this area, with the vast majority of letters arriving as expected, and the local delivery office was clear over the Christmas and New Year period.

"More recently, short-term staffing pressures and poor weather earlier this month have affected some routes.

"We’re working to ensure all routes receive a regular and reliable service and will continue to monitor performance closely."
