Dear gawd. Please for the love of the wee donkey, will you tale it as fact that managers know next to nothing. They are deliberately kept in the dark and told the bare minimum.
Your ‘friendly deputy manager’, not that we use that title, regurgitated a gossipy rumour. They have no roll-out plan to ram in. Have you not worked with the ‘genius team’ you are imagining could put together a new delivery model
I do agree that low-grade managers know next to nothing. But next to nothing is, even if marginally, more than nothing. We of course know nothing — well, except that the CwU won’t agree to deployment,
No, this one is definitely friendly — I actually went to primary school with him so know he is sound. And anyway, despite his hi-vis being emblazoned with the word “Manager”, he is still just an OPG like the rest of us and his heart isn’t really in the managerial stuff.
It isn’t that the ‘CWU won’t agree to deployment’, it’s that there isn’t a fully formed method to deploy. RM & the CWU have to agree to a trial timetable for an alternative method to the ODM pilots last year. That’s the hold up.
So what happens if RM wants to implement whatever bollocks they dream up and the cwu don't think it's a good plan and say we don't agree ? How can they hold it up or stop it ? Yeah I get they can say we won't help etc.
If they brought something in by executive action it would be moronic, as someone else said.
They haven’t trialled a different method to the pilot method. So they would be ramming in a completely untested unknown.
Believe it or not, they need the CWU and the reps to organise working methods. Without the cooperation of the CWU, anything they try to ram in will be a joke.
’You can't just ask customers what they want and then try to give that to them. By the time you get it built, they'll want something new.’
They are changing our days off to sat one week Wednesday the next and not covering both union said no but they bringing it anyway. So day off covers have lost there duties and are now reserves.

Correct, a good Rep(s) have the experience to create duties that can be completed within time.
However those same Reps are being ignored as it is now the norm to fail 20% of mail within any delivery office.
I am guessing that 20% is a verbal directive rather than written, the risk of evidence being reduced.
On a separate note, we got mail for first time in 2wks

They have been using 2 different methods at the South end trial office, the RM version and a variation of that put forward by the CWU, no idea how it's going

Heavy & Light? That will likely be to see whether there is any point rolling it out as a pilot method across 40 or so offices.

Unless "heavy and light" is going to save the business £350 million (like ODM was supposed to) there is no point in trialling it.
If the CWU have come up with a plan to save the business £350 million at the expense of the workforce then they are truly finished.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

I believe that is a yes to both of your comments
Told that local and area management think it's the only system that will work but management at the top have said no go as not enough savings.
Also told that RM want to claw back all the money lost through the failed trials by reducing the 2026 budget so expect even more failing offices

To be fair to Royal Mail they lobbied and begged Ofcom/government for around 6 years to change the uso so they could save hundreds of millions a year. Finally Ofcom have approved the change and now they have the cwu saying nah sorry you can only have half those savings. Can’t really blame them for digging their heels in for the ODM.
Surely we are gunna get some clarity in the next couple of weeks about what USO system is going to be brought in as before Xmas Royal Mail stated they wanted to start roll out in January 2026…….clock is ticking.

RM are fixated on the belief that millions can be saved if you deliver a bit of one walk and all of another each day. Until they return to reality and realise that, that would only function for the first week and would save no time or money thereafter, we are stuck with very similar trial methods being trialled on a doom loop.
’You can't just ask customers what they want and then try to give that to them. By the time you get it built, they'll want something new.’
RM need to realise that there are no millions to save on delivery. Due to years of reporting lies, cuts, more reporting lies and more cuts delivery is already operating at or over capacity. It's been failing for years already. Anymore cuts will be a disaster!
What is interesting is that this Daniel guy was instrumental in down valuing the company so he could buy it cheap. How did he not know the state of delivery before. Or maybe he does and it's part of plan to further reduce the uso when they claim they cannot make money.

Absolutely, like the “our business to run” method which was trialled and continues to be used has been a spectacular failure. Good reps will be able to get an office functioning far easier than management as they will listen and take the members with them.
Without taking your staff on the journey whatever you try and implement will be a failure. Interesting times ahead.
Absolutely love it when these overtime bans are introduced, yesterday we had cages & cages of sequenced mail not put out, cages & cages of unsorted mail, piles & piles of national trust magazines, no managers came out of the office, we had walks with no cover, just took the tracked, came back well early chucked a few rows of D2Ds in from last week
