New Contracts and Sunday Premium
Anybody here on a new contract and also getting paid the Sunday premium on top of their basic pay?
My understanding was that new contracts don't get any of the supplements or premiums. For example we all know the new contracts don't get the delivery supplement. But something came up yesterday that made me think the Sunday premium might be different.

New contracts don't get anything.
No training supplement - your duties include training others
No delivery supplement - your duties include delivering anything provided
No sunday premium - your 40hr contract is 5 days out of 7 including sat/sunday
No night rate - if you work nights over xmas(for example) you get paid your standard rate
No light days - oh you finished delivery early? Here's the stuff the legacy contracts didn't even attempt to deliver
The 40hr contracts are pretty shite tbh but if you need the job then you'll take it

Re: New Contracts and Sunday Premium
What happens to angard staff on the new contracts, they were getting sunday premium rates but got rumbled then kicked off and tied to claim “custom & practice” and threatened tribunals etc
I told them it would be funny it the company turned around and asked them to pay it all back.
(they had been receiving sunday premium and paid breaks for 2 yrs)

Re: New Contracts and Sunday Premium
Sunday for a new contract working for royal mail is the exact same rate as any other day ,there's no special line on your payslip to say woooow you've done something different than a weekday.. I know because ive been there and done it..

It's so wrong how two people doing the exact same job can have totally worse pay and conditions than the person they work with..

Try telling that to all the legacy contracts who cut off daily regardless of how much they actually have to deliverTooManyLoops wrote: ↑17 Jan 2026, 22:01Legacy contracts have to deliver everything, too

My office has a number of legacy on 37hr contracts who claim their duty is unachievable and cut off daily despite the fact the 40hr contracts doing RDC clear the round with the bit the legacy left and still get back early.
As for utter bollocks...its a daily thing. The 40hr contracts end up taking out parts of duties that the legacy have lapsed. We're at the point now the 40hr contracts are taking their time to avoid having to finish the duties that legacy aren't clearing.
Entire office need pulling in, management included, and being told to do the job or f**k off.

We don't have any new starters on 40hours, but yeah we have the legacy ones who we all know will bring back loops no matter how light the mail is, its more or less a daily joke thing, nothing gets said to them of course, but the ones who actually stay out to try and clear just get more thrown at themNo light days - oh

Re: New Contracts and Sunday Premium
I think every office probably has staff that refuse to complete walks out of principal and to show that the walk is not possible. They take one side or bring loops back when they don't need to. Our office definitely does. Then when they're not in they hope the walk doesn't get cleared and show that it can be done. People shouldn't be taking the piss but on the other hand the workload should be achievable and equal amongst staff. RM aren't playing fair but also some staff aren't either.

Employment law states 2persons doing same work do not get paid more or less
Cwu know this but refuse to put it to RM or ACAS
If person took it to tribunal they would win their case
Has to be same work
