It's the 1st time in about 2 years that I wasn't asked to work my day off.....
Was there any work to actually do.

The same for us. The office has already collapsed and that’s with overtime.

Came back this afternoon after being soaked. I`m off tomorrow, but my partner was scheduled to work her day off(as she usually does) but was told she wasn`t allowed to work it. Doubtless neither of our walks will will be covered, so it`ll be double mail on Saturday. I shall be leaving a few loops in. If this is how they want to play it, then so be it. You`d think they`d learn by now wouldn`t you? but I guess bonusses are at stake. :hmmmm

Most offices have a S/A contract to work rest days….so are they now saying you can’t work them?

SAs are a contractual agreement so they remain the same.

Not at our office mate. No structured day off cover anymore. You’re lucky if anything other than tracked gets delivered :whistle
It’s the norm nowadays to return to chaos after day off/annual leave

Rest assured they’ll issue RM a fine & release a statement in a few months!

Doesn't this happen every year then after a week or so the DO's are in such a state they have to start paying OT again? It seems a bizarre way to run a company.

I think it would be a mistake to assume that was has happened before will happen again.
Royal mail is a different beast. Expect different scenarios.
Nobody can run a business at a loss.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Why do people assume that what goes on in their office is typical of the country as a whole?
The use of SA to cover rest days is an abuse of the SA agreement and is fundamentally anti trade unionism.

There lies the problem

It’s impossible to run what was once a service where everything went everyday

as a business model wanting profit
