RM are holding the CWU to ransom.
The CWU do NOT agree to changes being made in delivery & as a consequence RM will NOT agree to any change of contracts for new starters.
Quite mad in that RM will probably be making those changes anyway as they think the trial offices were successful.
I would not be looking forward to being in delivery this year!!

They could agree on ODM being brought in return for equalisation.

Either party are more than capable of not keeping their end of the deal.

I don’t know why the union won’t just agree to the ODM in return for equalisation and any other caveats. Obviously we all know it doesn’t work but we all still have a start and a finish time. Let RM worry about the new USO working and maybe the union should be backing us more when we have to hand back/leave stuff in because the job is impossible in our hours these days.

I could not agree more, let it go tits up big style.
But then the CWU could be seen to be in cahoots with RM & questions would be asked of both.
This way when it does go pear shaped the CWU can put hands in air & say “not us Gov”
Meanwhile the new recruits suffer, the ever increasing turnover of staff will continue & deliveries will get worse.
At some point this year the Government will ask them to explain in some committee meeting, but nothing will come of it.
That would also mean Labour admitting they ducked up & we all know they never do that!!!!

One of the issues with the ODM is that the CWU have tried to sell it by saying that people will stay on their same routes/duties (practically impossible unless you are on a deep rural run), reduce fatigue (impossible unless you move to a permanent parcel/collections role), greatly improved attendance patterns/more Saturdays off (practically impossible unless the whole office drives for RM).

Don't pay the subs, put that money into an AVC pension or whatever instead.

This made me spit out my tea I only asked once for help in 36 years and all the union could say was see the managers point of view. Totally utterly useless.

The number quoted in one of the union updates as having endured the last three years was so comically small (146?) that statistically it is unlikely anyone posting on this forum can make a firsthand report. And likely only getting more remote, as chances are the number has dwindled further in the meantime.

Those premium products (Tracked) have hijacked the service. They're non-USO items which are supposed to ride along on the network built for providing the USO but the relationship has been forcibly flipped and now you have letters banded to packets or you just don't get them.

I for one can't wait for the ODM, looming large as it is. I'd love to see them have to reverse twenty years of revisions and put night shifts back in and create Saturday cycle duties for non-drivers and all the other ideas the union and the company have come up with to try to make it work

A lorry full of letters and flats is worth far more than a lorry full of packets.
Unfortunately out of the 98 Yorks, you'd be lucky to get two or three at best that have letters/flats in.
