Re: Bad weather policy
Use a days annual leave or offer to work next day off you have....nobody higher up would make a decision on a Sunday. Think of your own safety first work 2nd.

??????
Totally agree with your own safety comes first but if it's unsafe to travel to work you shouldn't be booking a days holiday, it's not your fault

Re: Bad weather policy
Does the "report to your nearest office/D.O. if possible" still apply? I know this was a thing a few years back but I've not heard of anyone doing this recently.

Re: Bad weather policy
Hey, I didn't make the policy. Royal Mail did. Either get paid for it by using a day leave or it's unpaid. That's the way Royal is now.

Re: Bad weather policy
That's policy since when?
The last I heard you attempted to get to your nearest RM office and offered to work there, if you couldn't reasonably get there you got paid the same as if you couldn't go out on delivery either because the work didn't arrive or because it was to dangerous to attempt delivery

Re: Bad weather policy
It's always been the policy, unless it's been quietly withdrawn subsequently.
Mainly used to stop someone seeing 1/2" of snow and staying in bed and saying that they couldn't travel to their usual place of work.

Re: Bad weather policy
Its if you cant get in ( and it is very deep everywhere ) you give up a days annual leave or lose a days money. Supposed to last all week, so there goes the annual leave. Crazy

Re: Bad weather policy
Since Storm Eowyn last year. Officially it's the above, in practice management will use this as an opportunity to nullify some annual leave. If it isn't a Met Office red alert, no-one in the operational hierarchy is willing to be the one to call a halt to deliveries.A2B wrote: ↑04 Jan 2026, 22:43That's policy since when?

Re: Bad weather policy
during snow days, i've always walked to the local D/O and signed in, if they send you home then it's full days pay no matter how long there,
and i've never known anyone have to use leave or owe hours except 1 instance when they said it was union agreed to work it back,
i said to just dock my pay then, they never did

Walked in today, over half office didn't show, they were told if you can't make it to any depot they could use up a days annual leave or lose a days pay.. Those of us that made it in didn't go out, sat around most of day and they finally let us leave a whole 20 mins early, how kind of them!

Same but had to stay until the end of shift, wouldn’t even let us take our break at home.
If you are sent home you should be paid, if they gave you the choice and you went home you would have to make the hours up. Unless we are already in the gig economy?

Yeah we knew we wouldn't be going out at all today, no vans turned up so was not much to do, I don't see why they just didn't send us home much earlier, and if it all turns to ice overnight there won't be much done tomorrow either.
