Evri’s reported use of alleged “stock photos” has seen the first 2026 Oxfordshire complaints about the parcel delivery service.
Athar Chaudhry, a photographer who lives in Peachcroft, Abingdon, said one of his parcels has “gone missing” as Evri delivered it with a “stock photo of someone else’s door”.
Writing on social media, he said: “Shame on Evri for employing such careless drivers.”
Evri is disputing the case and a spokesperson for the company said there has not been enough information provided to investigate the complaint lodged by Mr Chaudhry.
The Evri spokesperson said: “We refute the claims that a stock photo is being sent to indicate delivery based on the current information provided."
Mr Chaudhry had said that it was the “second incident that the guy has left the same picture when delivering the parcel” and that he had complained to the company about it.
One person suggested it might have been stolen, to which Mr Chaudhry said he had checked his doorbell footage and seen nothing.
Another said they also often received “stock photos” from Evri delivery drivers informing them their parcel had been delivered.
But when taking Mr Chaudhry's claims to Evri, a spokesperson told us: "We have asked Oxford Mail to produce the image in context, and at the time of publication, we have not been presented with or been able to find evidence to substantiate the claims.
"This would be outside the delivery practice and is of course a matter we’d investigate fully if provided with any information.”
The company stated that the photo of an Evri courier in uniform is included in a delivery notification email alongside information about how consumers can choose a safe place for their delivery.
The photo does not indicate the delivery location of the customer’s parcel, according to Evri.
Before Christmas, some people living in the Wellington Gate community in Grove reported that a stock photo had been used to indicate delivery.
But this is unrelated to Mr Chaudhry's complaint.
This newspaper saw multiple reports of householders on the estate frustrated by their missing parcels in the run-up to Christmas Day.
One woman, who wished to remain anonymous, said hundreds had gone missing on the new-build development and she had complained to the company about it.
She said: “A lot of people are going to have a bad Christmas and the companies using their service are just not hearing the complaints.
“It’s appalling. I have never seen anything like it.”
Another anonymous householder complained on Friday, December 5 that not only had parcels been dropped at their doorstep without the doorbell being rung, but that only one of them was his.
A further resident, who also asked not to be named, said that several presents for her niece had been lost by the business and added that the behaviour was damaging the local community.
In addition, doorbell footage seen by this paper showed a package being thrown onto a doorstep without the driver leaving the car.
Evri apologised for the disruption in December and said it was is in the midst of delivering "four million parcels every day to communities across the country".
The business added: “Every parcel matters to us, and we’re disappointed when a courier fails to care for a parcel as if it were their own.
"The vast majority of our 34,000 couriers are hardworking members of the local community and take pride in their work.”
The delivery driver in the area resigned after the fiasco and was swiftly replaced by another who Evri said they had “positive feedback” about.
