Strike a light! It’s the dole queue for me!

June 6th, 2007

Royal Mail are balloting for a strike. It’s about a payrise, or lack of one. They go on and on about this at work, to the point where they start speaking to you in the team briefs and you switch off. It just isn’t in my interest to strike. I’ve been there for one year and want to keep my job, but RM’s lack of money might come back to bite. These union supporting knobs will gladly go along supporting strike action, as they’re invariably people who’ve been at the job years. The people employed recently are the ones most at risk. Though, obviously, the union don’t point out there could be job losses as a result of striking, it could happen.

For that reason, I’m not striking. But it’s easier said than done. If, as is expected, the union votes to strike, I don’t think i’ll bother turning up to the Mail Centre. It’d be crawling with staff only to willing to physically abuse you for turning up to work. I think the best thing for everyone would be to stay at home and hope it all resolves itself, quickly!

I’d hoped for a secure job at Royal Mail, but a union that is forever finding fault with everything is putting paid to that.

Not our planet. On another part of the Blog he's put his picture on - (not going to post a link or the picture but anyone can track it down). I don't think this guy thinks through the consequences of his actions. I wonder if anyone knows him on here if you do be gentle with him and try to change his mind verbally.

I got this in my Google alerts, was gonna comment on there but in the end i thought f**k it.
It amazes me how some people think,we've had all the facts from both sides like him no doubt and he feels that way  :d'oh!

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

''It just isn't in my interest to strike.'' From a person who has worked for RM for just ONE YEAR.
Of course it's in your interest. Royal Mail are trying to save money. Do you really think they will pay off a 20-30 year man when they can get rid of you for a few quid. It's the likes of you who should have been the first to vote YES. If anyone knows this person please try to explain the real situation.

Leighton & Crozier want 40000 jobs to go mate that what the strike is about(Apart from pay).

The CWU have never to my knowledge agreed to any compulsory redundancies.

There is a future for you in Royal Mail but you have to fight for it the only way is to support your Union :wave

Exactly, they want people through the door as cheaply as possible by fair means or foul. Problem is that youv'e a lot of Maggie's children and the stuff they've been fed in the corporate McJob world. To quote a ex-rep who turned poacher turned gamekeeper " Most of you lot are not in the Union anyway, I will not be dictated to by the CWU", a MEDC rep "I'm on a Stage3 can I join, it's frustrating!", we had one who joined when he realised what a parasite his LM was and got Probation; but it's not uncommon that sort of thing.

its quite sad that this guy cant see the big picture we had a guy in our office who says he cant afford to go strike, we told him he cant afford not to go strike.
if we dont win this one the union will betrampled on by leighton and his sidekick crozier.
the people who dont come out on strike will still take the wage increase and better conditions that the rest of us will fight for

Burslem along with the rest of the area have just been on strike so as part time staff some with less than a year in the job can be made up to full time if they want to, and this muppet comes out with this, ive been in this job a lot of years but if somebody new to the job was going to loose their job through no fault of their own then i would gladly stand on any picket line...UNITY IS STRENGTH.

It's the Unions job to find fault with things & you can guarantee that RM will botch things, he'd want a rep if RM wanted him out on a fit up.Most of the job loss figures were exaggerated & couldn't be verified, Mgrs still on the books , gardening leave , as consultants, there would some natural wastage, but you don't trust the Del Boy school of accounting.

Just remember this you would be working in workhouse conditions belonging to the 1800s if it was not for Trade Unions many of them suffered severe hardships to the point of starvation.

The im all right Jack & Jills think they can make it on their own back sadly History tells us otherwise.

I am a part timer ( not for preference, but when the choice is P/T or back to the rock, I'll take P/T & pray for the day I get offered F/T ), joined the union as soon as I saw my rep - but he lost my application! So I chased him up about it ( hasten to add, I am at a different office to the one I started at - and the rep there is spot on, just the sort of bloke I'd want to back me up ) & finally got it sorted. I have never voted Labour or felt inclined to the left before joining RM,,,,but I fecking voted YES, A BIG F*CKING YES!, not because i can afford to lose a day's pay, not 'cos I fancy an extra day off or two, but because I seriously took time thinking about the options and weighing up my position, and reaching the conclusion that if I do not want to be worse off than I am now a strike had to be threatened & if ignored had to be carried out.....

Iif it happens that I'm LIFO'd out, I'd like to think I did all I could to avoid it - if I voted NO, I'd always think "Could I have done more?"
I don't suppose your mouth bleeds every 28 days, does it?
