What a horrible wet rainy day !!!
What a horrible wet rainy day !!!
What a horrible day in Wolverhampton.
Same happened to my partner.
My letter/paper specials fell apart.
I couldn’t write any 739 because all my cards wet and ruined. I just scanned the special has no answer.
Parcels literally falling apart in my hands.
One of worst weather this year.
Some of the track labels were unscanable because how bad the rain was.
Did anything similar happen to anyone ?
In future I will put all my specials in a damage bags before I go out on delivery.
I will put my 739 cards in a damage bag.
Is this a good idea ???

I wouldn't mind it so much if we had waterproof coats and shoes. I don't care so much about the parcels getting wet but wet feet isn't pleasant.

Re: What a horrible wet rainy day !!!
I always have a stock of damaged bags and the actual RM branded plastic bags to put stuff in if I have to 'safe place' it round the back but they've not left their shed open as usual or behind the bin where rain might get down the gap between the bin and the wall. Yes, yes I know it's not a safe place if it's not under shelter but I've put it in a placcy bag - my decision.Dan jack wrote: ↑19 Dec 2025, 04:08What a horrible wet rainy day !!!

Re: What a horrible wet rainy day !!!
As soon as a postcard became the next letter in the bundle the ink writing turned into an instant blur, no idea which address it is for. Pointless even delivering it now because the whole message on it was wiped out instantly.
Shoes going to take 3 days to dry.
Worst weather I've ever worked in.

Re: What a horrible wet rainy day !!!
Dry in my part of the world today but the days described in this thread are just the pits. Chucking it down for the full duration of the duty is in fact a rarity, but when it does happen it’s soul destroying! Had a day about 3-weeks ago when I kept thinking the rain was going to ease up a bit but in fact it just kept getting more torrential. Virtually impossible to do an already impossible job in those conditions…
“Shorts,in this weather?!”
“If they’re bills I don’t want ‘em!”
“What’s she been ordering now?”

Re: What a horrible wet rainy day !!!
You're describing this very day in 2008 to a tee!
Sticks in my mind as one of the worst days I've ever experienced, even 17 years later nothing has surpassed it. My signatures card fell apart at the start of the second bag and I threw my pen in the hedge in a fit of rage. I'm sure in our modern world I'd instead be screaming at the useless PDA going berserk.

The machine stops.

In real bad weather we sit in the van until it safe to work, hit last letter it goes back, not worth getting soaked for minimum wage

Re: What a horrible wet rainy day !!!
Had a flashback to Feb 14th around 7yrs ago. Was paired with an agency lad who was a decent worker but simply gave up around 1pm,it was just so cold. Torrential rain, gale force winds on a council estate, open to all the elements. I recall I wasn’t able to write out the P739’s as I couldn’t feel my hands! Bought a couple of bags back & the gaffer had some sort of breakdown
Was out for a meal that night with my wife (hence why I recall the exact date) & even at 9pm & with 4-lagers inside of me,I could still feel the cold. Was chilled to the bone!

When its that bad the only thing that takes the chill out your bones is a hot, hot bath.Cedar_Room wrote: ↑21 Dec 2025, 18:08Had a flashback to Feb 14th around 7yrs ago. Oh man I feel for ya. I don’t miss that about the job. Also being told to take your whole round out knowing full well you ain’t gonna complete and bringing it back wet n soggy to a mad-faced DOM.
Sounds like we lived the same experience. One day I was working on an exposed council estate trolley round, the cold wind gusts would channel through the streets making it worse, on top of getting battered by the on/off hailstorms. I’d have to write out p739s with hands that couldn’t grip a pen. On these days I’d think about what the war prisoners of the long march to freedom during the second world war went through, for them it was 1000x worse.

Re: What a horrible wet rainy day !!!
I had a lad that on real bad days, told me he would close his eyes when crossing the road, hoping it would all be taken away from him
he was always moving to different walks, after 25+ years he just stopped coming in & eventually got sack 🫤

I think you mean we are cheap and we're haggard.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.
