Back to the OP today in our DO was like a normal mid week day, I'm not sure if it's still the Prime Day packets working their through the system or not but we didn't seem to have that many Amazon packets, if it's not then we'll never cope when peak starts,

I had a completely full van tonight on collections as had to pick up some large PF parcels, no idea how we'll cope nearer peak, once again no real thought has been put into how we're supposed to fit PF parcels into RM vans, before anybody suggests it, I've no intention of driving a larger van and so potentially having an accident as I'v never previously driven one, or ever even wanted to drive one, just to suit the company's needs.
If it can't fit in the van, decline the collection (in a professional manner of course!) and advise your manager who will come up with a cunning plan.
It's the SOP which of course we were all trained in......

Are we allowed to refuse to drive a bigger van we arnt comfortable or confident driving?.. we have a sprinter size van that sometimes gets handed out, I dread driving it if they tell me to use it

Given the size of items these days it's probably when, not if larger vans get brought in.

You can't (shouldn't) be able to drive it unless you've been trained on it. Most people seem to be trained on small vans these days.

Thanks, yeah I took my driving assessment in the small van, I don't mind the next size up from small, they seem just right, but the sprinter van looks huge..

I'm a Parcelforce driver in Norfolk, and our routes are about 60% Parcelforce parcels then the rest RM large Amazon parcels eg: Suitcases, 20 kg bags of dog biscuits in a large parcel with one strip of tape on it, shitty Amazon boxes with 48 cans of coke inside. Maybe the transition has not started yet in your area. In our Depot we get a lot of very large RM parcels , but doesn't bother us that much as we are used to it.

Happens to me at least twice a week. Tend be be a bit selective if its looking busy.I won't pick any heavy / large parcels up as I simply don't have room and not damaging my back as we all know what would happen if I did

Manager doesn'tcare so why should i.
