Just drop 2c mail on Saturday and make the job Monday to Friday with Saturday's Tracked & 1c covered by SA/OT?
If that were to happen any mech mail would be sent as manual. With there being so little 1C (currently all DSA is classed as 2C) it wouldn't be worth running the machines.

It's not worth a postie cutting their walk to deliver 1st class post here there and everywhere but they still make us do it

Do you mean that all 1C would still be segregated but would have to come into the unit as manual in this scenario (versus all of it comes down and we have to pick it out)?

Indulge me in some wild guessing...
  • In the absence of a known IPS sorting rate, take the prep test rate variously quoted as either 25 or 35 items a minute. Say 30 - one letter every two seconds.
  • Office callrate average currently fluctuates between 10 to 30% thanks to DTS. Say 20%.
  • 1C volumes are ~10%
Per my unit: circa 13,000 letters would be expected traffic (sequenced + estimated manual), so roughly 1,300 1C would need sorting. That works out to 0.75 hours on IPS. Doable in this day and age with almost no-one on IPS under normal circumstances.
The machine stops.

It was interesting to hear the union suggest 1c represents 12% of incoming mail on average, as that means we have, more or less, visit 10% pf our customers which day just to deliver their 1c mail,

The Gaffer says “You're on your own today”. My thoughts “Thank Christ for that”!

Yep, would just be sent out in separate 1C and 2C trays. All 1C and 2C manual letters and flats have to go into separate trays whether it's being sent from the outward MC to the inward MC or from the inward MC to the DOs.

I wouldn't put it past RM to eventually look at axing all letter deliveries on Saturdays, not just 2C.

Was put on a semi-rural yesterday. I`m p/t but the frame wasn`t prepped so I had to start from scratch. Long driveways, lots of dead walking and piles and piles of 2nd class junk mail and less time to do it it. Couldn`t complete , brought a bundle back. Top thinking from RM top brass.
They wanted me to take out 3 huge boxes which filled a York, were very heavy, needed a signature, recipient unlikely to be in , and were up some very dodgy steps. I wasn`t prepared to damage myself, and wouldn`t have had the time, so I refused. Parcelforce territory surely?

It's RM punishing posties for allowing their union to block the ODM reforms? Just get use to taking 1/5 out extra each day then by your next day off your clear again!!
