I genuinely think RM are operating on a model of planned failure.

There aim is to prove the USO is unaffordable and unworkable, without scaling it back further.

So bringing in 4 in 3 suits them, because it'll do just that, fail. They then go to Ofcom to ask for a bigger reduction in the USO. Which I read they've already started the process on?

I guess Kretinsky wants a 3 day a week service as that would half the workforce needed for letters.
i agree entireley, you cannot be continuously this dumb by accident. Its meant to fail and we have to suffer during the process

The aim is to offload RML entirely from IDS/RMG so EP Group can skip off into the sunset with GLS and ParcelForce. The government are desperately praying they don't have to nationalise another failed public service so Ofcom will acquiesce to ever greater reductions in QoS to forestall that.
The machine stops.

It would be a strange move for RM to spend upwards of £100m on parcel lockers and parcel shops only to lose it all if RM was ever nationalised, why not just keep that money in the bank?

The parcel lockers could easily move over to another company

They'll only be or any use to a company who delivers parcels upto shoe box size.

I love how RM and the CWU keep adjusting these ratios from "4 into 3" or "7 into 8" or "11 into 12" and try to make these formulas make any sense. Some of us are already doing the heavy/light model and it currently makes no sense at all. What are we actually saving when staff are still working past their times or still bringing mail back because the duties are too feckin big in the first place??

And RM are most reluctant to put any duties back in that they took out in 2022/23 because they still believe that it eats into their precious savings when ironically if they did just that and equalised our duties with a full revision you would get:

1. duties covered everyday and delivery consistency
2. a more efficient and controllable workflow
3. less sickness, staff retention and improved morale

I was never a fan of lapsing but RM persisted with it because it made them savings. Any new USO models involving daft fractions on a spreadsheet merely serve to confuse and alienate staff who obviously don't like this way of working. They are treating our walks like some sort of puzzle when half the pieces are already missing. Considering I'm driving round just delivering parcels and 1c only in one area of town while my colleague is trying to deliver double/treble mail in another part of town is just an absolutely bonkers way of working that is neither effective nor time saving when you consider the time wasted in 1. dropping a van share colleague off and then picking them up (20-30 mins) while 2. driving round just delivering parcels and 1c across 2 loops, including any out of the way Specials, is only saving 20-30 mins. Total the times up and the business is saving the square root of f-all.

When are they going to knock these daft fantasy ways of working ideas on the head and just get back to putting in more manageable rounds that can be covered on a daily basis? All I can see is RM consistently failing quality of service targets especially on 1c letters which are less visible than parcels being delivered which is allegedly where the money is.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

According to the union yesterday, the old guard are still running Royal Mail and will not back down and admit theyve made massive mistakes. And the numbers they came up with regarding savings on the USO are nowhere near reality. Yet we as ever are on the receiving end of it all

It's tragicomical watching management standing in front of their flip chart in the morning trying to figure out how to assemble the jigsaw when so many pieces are lodged in the dog's lower intestine. Don the rubber gloves and take a loop.
The machine stops.

I know I particularly liked this when referring to our management
