To me it’s more a case of Royal Mail can recruit but can’t retain.
Yep this indeed, most think it's walking around a few streets with just a few bags, until they walk into the office which is usually chaos, trays of mail, 2/3 packet bags, d2d piled up, then they learn the person they are working with is getting paid more than them, no wonder most dont stay.

Exactly this and even if we (new entrants) look past the amount of work and state of a office is in at the start, the realisation that we’re treated and paid like second class employees soon grates enough to push us out.

I don't know if it's reported elsewhere in this thread but 27,000 people who have been recruited on the new contracts have since left.
That's quite a number.

Yes that's a huge part of the problem.
Easy to stick on a new recruit on a problem duty or a duty not been out in 5 days.
Managers just scrambling around daily just for 1 day fixes...but of course long term as you've pointed out-it backfires.
But as everyone knows the whole system is broken.

How long until units burn through the local pool of available labour? At some point they'll be desperately hiring the unemployable and stuff's going to disappear - already a genuine concern with agency.

Currently our younger cohort don't give a flying f**k in their brief stopover between jobs; and in fairness, neither do the over 55s once they've been rapidly disabused of their Ivor Wood-gifted delusions. Any pushback from management and they'd rather spend their semi-retirement as a lolipop man.
The machine stops.

We had one reported on a local Facebook group caught on doorbell.
Agency driver bought a mate along and they went on little spree themselves.

Plenty of other things whole duties put back in pillar boxes, out delivering fast food while on RM duty....I could go on.....

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Meanwhile the "Go to 30" is suggesting RM want to be the employer of choice, although if that's competing against Evri etc rather than Aldi etc it's probably a very low bar?

We've just taken on half a dozen new starters and only one seems capable of doing the job long term, that's assuming he stays once he realises hoe the company is being run, what I find irritating is that management just let good posties leave without making any real attempts to keep them.
