i saw a feature about these scanner machines that were being trialed in reading east DO to replace the recorder/special delivery sign cards...
i was wondering if anyone knew if there was any chance their use will be expanded.. as one of those would be easier than carrying 1 or 2 siging cards about... at the moment they keep getting soaked in my pocket and they only have space for what.. 8 or 9 items.. not really enough considering that every day there are more recorded/special delivery items to delivery and get a signature...

This type of thread has popped up a few times and it does look like their use will be expanded UK wide eventually. There was also a piece in the courier as well.
There are naturally a few concerns about the big brother aspect of them if they are GPS tagged, and also personal responsibility about charging, and damage. Also some queries as to whether it will affect some DOs who do not have to go back to the office. But I am sure all these points and others not thought of yet will be addressed before they are rolled out UK wide.

In this age of high tec. I would have thought that these scanners could have some sort of mobile facility, where the postie could send the data back to the office. Oh yes, and by the way, they can be programmed to read gas and elec. meters. So as we go to everyhouse at least once a week???????TrueBlueTerrier wrote:This type of thread has popped up a few times and it does look like their use will be expanded UK wide eventually. I hope they can do that remotely as some of the houses I deliver to I would not enter without a Hazmat suit and full face mask.greynut wrote:In this age of high tec.
