I do feel for the real older posties in our office, I see them hobbling around, coming in early without pay to chuck all their D2D's in, staying out in all weathers everyday to clear their frames, most will die on the job or very quickly after they are forced to retire, I did once raise this concern about one postie and was told "THEY ARE VERY PROUD MEN,VERY PROUD MEN"

But Royal Mail appreciated his sacrifice.

Utter madness! No respect for it because those types helped creating the hellscape RM is today. Start on time, work at a reasonable pace, take breaks, cut off if you have to and finish on time.

I'm late 50s and have done nearly 37 years. Will be retiring at 60. Bad knees, a dodgy hip. If you can sort your finances out, get out. In my case I probably wont need to work again. I get that some might, but people need to look after themselves. The job wont get easier.

Maybe it’s because I’m in my mid 50s and have been doing the job for over 30 years, but I regularly get home now and just feel knackered. Even if I get a good nights sleep, I’ll still get in from work and often feel so tired.
Have you considered going to the doctors and asking for a blood test just to check everything is OK? :hmmmm
Yes, I had a routine blood test earlier in the year and everything was ok. Still a good suggestion though :thumbup

Save every spare pound you can. Take AVCs and pay extra pension. Most people who say you can't take it with you , usually inherited a large amount or their spouse has a well paid job. Don't waste money trying to impress other people. Then hopefully you can walk away in reasonably good health and no longer a slave to the company into old age.

Under no circumstances tell management you are burnt out. They'll take you off driving duties then try and force you out. They have all sorts of pretend medical experts only a phone call away to "" help you "". Like the mental health line . You break down we sack you. Can't drive ? We move you then sack you. It's cheaper than VR... don't fall for any of it.
