Total service on pension statement

Post by wallop »

Hi I'm a defered member Section B. i joined in July 1986 and left in Jan 2022 (35 years 6 months and 1 day) I'm not taking any pension at the moment.
How is total service worked out on RMSPS statements?
I presume it's from you're start date to one of the pension changes? If so i can't work out which one
The reason i ask is on my statement from April 2021 when i was still employed it shows 26 years 260 days as total service.
On statements from 2022 and 2024 (never received a 2023) That figure has gone down to 25 years 225 days as total service.
I can't seem to find any way that they've come up with these figures.

As the RMSPS benefits relate to service up to 2012, I can't think of any logical reason why your service levels would go down.

My only suggestion is to get in touch with them and query it.
Links to all RM pension related websites are here

To be honest i suspect that makes it right,if its 31/3/2012 that would be 25 years 8 months and 3 days.
They make it confusing by titling it your total service as of April 2021,2022 etc if it never increases.
I wasn't sure which end date it related to.
I need to contact them anyway as i seem to be locked out of the website i'll mention it then.
Thanks for your help.

Be aware that it's technically not your "service" that the time relates to it's the time from when you opted in to the pension. Are you certain you joined from your service start date or could it have been a little later?

It's definately from my start date you never opted in back then you were just put into the pension but i know they take time off for industrial action etc.We were on strike for weeks in those days.
