i worked in a factory for 13 years and believe me working for rm is a walk in the park.
Factory work would be horrible. I once applied to one 12 years ago because my mum was fed up with me taking 2 long 2 find a job, i was young! I am so glad i did not get it!! Altho the getting up at 5am can be tough, i think of all the good things i like, we cant have it all ways!
At the end of the day we have 8 hours per day to do (take away MR) and that is all we do.

Truth be told the job is easy, I worked in catering and the stress their is terrible, but in all honest opinion the only thing that make the job a pain and difficult to bear is management bullying style and the time limit that we got to do the work in and we are getting more and more volumes of mail, less time and lack of proper equipment

That's very true. Someone with many more years experience of Royal Mail than me recently said that all those that are perpetually moaning about the job are those that haven't worked elsewhere, and by and large he's right.
Yes, some of us will on occasion have a moan on here about Royal Mail after we get home from work, but that's better than taking it out on our colleagues or being bad tempered with our customers.
I like most of my job, ie my colleagues, the banter, most of the customers............I hate the verbal abuse off customers and lazy managers/people that don't do the job properly

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been. My BFF Clash The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

You've hit the nail on the head there Postman.
I've worked in the Private Sector too. And I know that the grass isn't neccessarily greener on the other side. But at least in the Private Sector, the Managers usually know what they are doing, and usually appreciate people working hard for them. RM generally take it for granted!

I worked for 14 years as a shot blaster for a private company and believe me that working as a posty is a doddle, if we had a machine that was due on a ship for export it had to be cleaned shot blasted and painted for that deadline, if that meant you working all night well so be it non of this I,m working to my time that I hear so much of, ok you got paid overtime but you had no option, most weeks you worked 7 days, I must admit though I miss the lads I worked with they would do anything for you but to me the best move I ever made was when I got a job with rm, if it wasn,t for the constant changes they keep implimenting which causes friction all the time it would be the perfect job.
The touble is with a lot of employees they have never seen the world outside of rm.
I did work in the building sector 80's-90's hard work yep but not that much different to delivery .Difference was my gross wage circa 92 varied £800 -£1100 per week
"Well paid" get a perspective
Been dojng the job 20+ years and looking back we had it sooo f***ing easy for a very long time. Nowadays its harder, but imo still a very good number.Unfortunatly i can only see it getting worse, but at the end of the day, all you have to do is work your hours. no stress etc

I enjoy it,I was a Soldier in the 70.s,I enjoyed that,Lorry driver in the 80,s and 90,s I enjoyed that in the beginning but it was ruined IMHO by all the petty rules and regulations.So I guess I have been quite lucky.I think a job is what you make it.
