re: According an analyst its alright
I was thinking the same, but heard an analyst last night say that it's not real money as it were.
They swap government bonds for high quality mortgages, but get them at 70% of their value. The loan is for one year.
The whole ideal is to prevent another bank from going into a Northern Rock scenario.
It's a disgrace and loads of people have talked about the greed in this country and elsewhere over the years. On top of that our friendly government just spent spent spent without thinking about the future. The public sector has employed loads of people in the last 10 years and their budgets have gone through the roof. now that times are difficult it is this sector that is the hardest to reduce in size as they are geenrally well represented by unions. I expected a battle royale to occur within 18 months.
You are also right though to question that if they can find money for non-DOMs (no not them) banks and others then why not for the Post Offices?

If anyone is in any doubt that New Labour are now for big business and not the low paid just explain why they abolish the 10% tax threshold meaning that the poorest people in society now pay more taxes. Yet Corporation Tax has come down to 28% meaning that big business and rich business owners now have a tax reduction.
In actual fact I can see no problem with the reduction in Corporation Tax and the higher threshold in Inheritance tax as both will help the economy but why should the poorer pay for it.
I think there should be a flat rate of income tax of 20% for everyone up to a annual wage of £50K (previously suggested £100,000). and then a sliding scale starting at 35% up to a maximum of 60% beyond £1,000,000. The tax code system should stay the same so that you don't pay tax until you pass a certain threshold, but what should be gotten rid of is all these claims that businesses/people can claim back. It would cut down on paperwork and be cheaper therefore perhaps allowing for an increase in thresholds once the system is settled in and working.
Any flaws that anyone can see.

You are right - I plucked the figure out of thin air - perhaps £50,000 would be a better starting figure.pickaname wrote:£100,000? Youre having a bubble bath....its only right that the richer you are the more tax you pay. Earning £100,000 per annum for a job is obscene...

Re: FLASH GORDON/
Ah yes i am still angry what Gordon the Flash said at prime ministers question time early on in the industrial dispute remember he said quote : "They should accept the terms offered and get back to work!" unquote. If you want to register your disapproval get your rep to get you a form so you can opt out of the portion of your union subs that go to the labour party. Our office is 100% union and just about everyone has opted out of this contribution.k979aaa wrote:For gordon the flash with our cash brown has shown his hand once again 50 BILLION of it if not more it is such a pity they the "NEW LABOUR PARTY" could and not and now will not invest in it's most ardent supporter's of year's gone by NOW IS THE TIME WE MUST ALL CONSIDER WHERE OUR LOYALTY'S ARE!. What about this idea?
Instead of increasing the Minimum Wage, and having several levels of Tax. Why not simply have a flat rate of Tax set to bring in roughly the same amount of Tax as the Government is currently getting. But change the Tax Codes, so that no-one pays any Tax on the first £12,000 per year if you have no Dependants. Which would of course increase if you have Dependants.linkinpark wrote:First increase the NMW to eight quid an hour (Hardly a kings ransom.) 20% tax till you get to £30.000 and then upwards till anything over £100.000 you pay75% tax. And as for Inheritance tax they should pay that from scratch as it is unearned income. If you win at the bookies you pay tax, if you are given a tip you get taxed on it. and if your boss buys you a drink at Christmas you can be taxed for that as well. but those things are not gonna happen because its the likes of us that would benefit from it and not good old gords play friends in the city.TrueBlueTerrier wrote:If anyone is in any doubt that New Labour are now for big business and not the low paid just explain why they abolish the 10% tax threshold meaning that the poorest people in society now pay more taxes. That way, the lower paid would be better off. And those who are better paid, will get more of their money before Tax which should stop them moaning about Tax increases. It would also mean, that we wouldn't be increasing the Wages Bill for small Businesses.
Or am I being too nieve?
As for Inheritance Tax: Because of the rise in House values over the last few Decades. A large proportion of Houses owned even by normal people like us, were enough to trigger Inheritance Tax, before it was changed.
There are already numerous schemes for people to cash in on their Houses (particularly when they are Retired), and lots of Care Homes, who demand payment, even if it means selling your Home. So it would just make a bad situation worse, changing the Inheritance Tax rules, so that you pay it on everything.
