What a bonkers day

Post by geordieboy123 »

The amount and size of Amazon parcels was absolutely ridiculous and it proved that the Fiat Doblos are just not suitable as we had to come back to the office to reload and I reckon Christmas is going to be worse especially with the big ex parcelforce parcels our small SPDO just won’t cope.

It was Amazon Prime Day, that's why there was the massive surge in Amazon parcels.

Prime Day is similar to Christmas at RM, the only people who don't seem to realise we'll be extra busy are the management!! You do have to wonder how much extra RM each year from Prime Days and how we still only manage to make small annual profits.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Think the next big Amazon mailing days are Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

Something to look forward to.I had on average 200 + parcels daily during that time so had no chance delivering mail so just built up and up and our office like many others is running on bare bones with sickness through the roof where we are all pushed to breaking point.I fear the office will lose the reliable senior posties and then we’ll be totally screwed.

It appears that Amazon management are also taken by surprise by it as well, if the disgruntled Amazon guy I spoke to is anything to go by!

It would be interesting to know how Amazon decide which parcels are being delivered by RM & Evri and which they retain for their own drivers, as a guess I'd say we get most of the large parcels and they retain anything which will fit through a letterbox or is small enough to be just doorstepped.

When you factor in the costs of agency staff that RM are using, and what little work you get out of them versus experienced staff, then it's little wonder.
We have agency on close to £20 an hour doing about 60 parcels a day.

Perhaps they get AI or some sort of algorithm to look at the history of previous deliveries of an address to see how long it took, complaints received, size (as you mention), how it fits in with other deliveries in an area.

Basically they stitch us up with the inefficient, difficult stuff I would imagine.

I think that's exactly what they do, I highly doubt there's many Amazon vans delivering to rural parts of the UK

I often go to properties where there's recently been an Amazon delivery of a small packet or similar, most of the collections also now seem to be Amazon's since RM have started charging for the service. Amazon could well be one of our biggest customers, at least weight/size wise.

I know for a fact that Amazon try to avoid the rural parts and give them to RM (not saying all over the UK but certainly their policy...been doing it for years)
