You’re the one that said “dyed-in-the-wool veterans can learn a thing or two from “newbies” and people coming from outside”. Why don’t you put your money where your mouth is and back up your claim? Oh, and just writing snarky comments isn’t enough to convince anyone.

Why don’t you question your manager, why don’t you demand that your manager pays you more, why don’t you demand RM change the contract that you willingly signed? No, you’d rather come on here and blame everyone else.
Well, for one, some positivity — rather than the world-is-going-to-end-tomorrow negativity that permeates every unit I’ve been to.

As for me, I’m more than happy with my lot, thank you, and I have no need to question or make demands of my managers. I earn in excess of £40k (plus pension contributions) for what is, office shenanigans aside, one of the best outdoor jobs out there.

I mean there is several reasons really. The one that really pisses people off in my experience from talking to people who have joined(then left) is finding out you're doing the same job as someone next to you for less money.
They are doing the job they agreed to do for the money offered, running around and doorstepping and rolling in when the notion takes you should not be rewarded by equal pay
Of course they should be awarded equal pay, no reason not to be. The disparity is not stated on the application form which gets peoples back up.

Just like SkiSunday whose just got the boot :cuppa
Nothing like SkiSunday. SkiSunday is now, thankfully, a persona non grata because he continued to make personal insults and offensive comments despite being warned repeatedly. I stand to be corrected by the mods, but I think we can safely presume he was not given the boot because of his sometimes controversial opinions — indeed the very purpose of this forum would cease to exist if it was not a place for the airing of and debating of opinions etc.

IMHO too much experience/length of service can often be a negative thing, especially if “veterans” make up a disproportionately large proportion of the workforce. It means, for example, there is often a resigned negativity about the job and an erroneous viewpoint that the job has gone down the pan; reluctance and pushback against modernising things changing work practices, changing workplace culture, eradicating misogyny, racism, homophobia where those behaviours are taking place, etc, etc.
Never have I read a bigger load of shite in my life.
You need to get out more then, chum. Then again, you clearly fall into the precise trap I’m referring to — your way of doing the job is, according to you, the only way. A good skill mix (aka experience) is essential in any workforce. Might come as a shock, but even dyed-in-the-wool veterans can learn a thing or two from “newbies” and people coming from outside.
No he's right it is a load of shite.

Absolute rubbish, all we are employing now is lazy young workshy woke idiots that have no care for the customer or trying to provide a service
Who are also on far inferior contracts to legacy contracts and have to work an extra 40 minutes a day unpaid while being tracked daily with unachievable workloads.
When 'we' stared we were nicking three hours a day quite easily while getting four hours docket for half an hours graft.
Let's not turn on each other. Would you have stayed then? Or showed desire to go the extra mile?

Yeah. Sure he is.

If you have the following...

1. A singleton / solo van duty.
2. A duty that's completable 80%+ of the year.
3. Colleagues that you get on with.

Then this job is actually pretty enjoyable, especially in the summer.

If you have...

1. A van-share.
2. A duty that's unachievable most of the time.
3. Managers on your back.

Then this job is awful, especially in the winter.

It's why people have a love-hate relationship with working for Royal Mail, as you have months or years go by where everything is going smoothly, then things flip on their head.

I have flip-flopped from being so content with the job, to absolutely hating the place....to liking it, to hating it..... some days you feel you could just walk out the job there and then, others you realise it's an enjoyable job where if everything was always setup sensibly I could stay for life.
Spot on with this. I could have written the same thing.

Fortunately I have a great colleague to work with and they are the only reason I turn up on those days that I don't want to get out of bed.
Once out of the office we try to complete the walk or walk and a bit between us, but we don't stress about it too much.

Maybe if we had more guidance, training, performance metrics, KPIs, quality indicators, communicated targets and support from the company and super hero’s like you, we’d meet your approval -

Another prize one !!

Circa 25%?? That is just a guess based on the demographic of my own office and a neighbouring one. I’d be interested to know the actual percentage if anyone knows it.

Quite a few long term 25 years+ leaving our office newbies coming in being trained may last few months at best one, lasted a day it’s just not an attractive job any more to stay years
