Ah so you've searched, how many driving apprenticeships did you find advertised ?

When I searched it was none.

This scheme is a disgrace. The whole recruitment process for drivers is a disgrace. Two years ago, like many others, I applied to join the driving acedemy. The selection process seemed quite random. I have a clean absence record, clean driving license, no accidents, however they never called me. Other people with lower seniority got into the academy. I asked the union and managers, no one knew what the slection process was. However I was advised to get my own license because there would be more vacancies in the future.

So I paid for my own driving license. After paying two grand and gettin my C+E license, I applied for several vacancies that were being advertised. However, because I paid for my own license and didn't go through the academy, I was told that I was last in line to get a job. So I saw all those academy drivers getting the driving jobs. When all of them got a driving job, the vacancies dried up. I was told to wait because there should be more vacancies in the future.

Now these vacancies have been advertised in the form of apprenteceships, which pay £22k the first year, and no mention of pay and conditions after this first year. So I decided that I would take a pay cut for the first year, and I applied for a space in this apprenteceship. I went on line and filled the application form, where I was asked what driving license I had. I stated I was in possesion of my C+E license.

Shortly after I received another e-mail asking me to sit a pair of online tests, English and Maths, which I did and I passed.

The next stage was an online interview by videoconference. So I went to the interview, and at the end, the interviewer told me it went very well and if I had any questions. I said that I was in possesion of my C+E license, so how would affect the apprenteceship. The interviewer's face completely changed and seemed in shock. She told me I was not supposed to apply for this apprenteceship since it was only for people without the C+E license, even though I stated in the applying form that I already had it. Apparently nobody check this application forms. So she apologized and told me that she had to drop me from the selection process.

So I went to the union's room and asked why couldn't I join the scheme. Basically I was told that I was being punished for getting my own license. Getting my own license worked against me. This company is a joke.

I know there was an opportunity to apply for a hgv driving licence and get a position as a driver.
Am a postie currently but would love to get qualification and become a driver.
Does RM still providing free course for employees??
I have no idea where to start. How to apply??
Any suggestions please??
Did anybody get a license recently through the company???
Thank you in advance Marzena
Honestly, go and get it independently. You could be waiting ages with royal mail or apply, as I did, only to not be approved because too many others applied.
