As to be expected, its full of the usual garbage now and I only hope that the families of those involved don't stumble upon it.
You will find no forum/newspaper/media source in the land that allows comment on stories like this. It is disrespectful and unprofessonal to allow comment on something this serious and I still don't believe it has been left open! If we MUST have stories like this posted on here, at least have the decency to lock them - this is going TOO far.

NT if you stop posting on this topic others might not respond in the manner they have, then the topic won't get any more comments and won't need to be locked

I hadn't thought about it like that.
It hadn't occured to me, that it would make a difference wether the comments are directly below the story, or in another Thread clearly marked as talking about it. But I do see your point.Night Tonic wrote:News blackout - NO. What isn't right is comments following a story like this. You won't find anywhere that allows that - for good reason. It is sometimes very important to voice our concerns. Particularly, if there is a percieved failure of H&S procedures, which could potentially effect our Collegues. But as you said: we could just as easily discuss it in a new Thread.

Actually thats incorrect. It was making a loss before Leighton, and RM top brass had wasted money buying properties and small companies with little or no return. We didn't have deregulation either.fatherchristmas wrote:Dear cantypeandshout for your info previous to mr Leighton and co This Public Service made a healthy profit from which the government took large slices to fund other government services us so called old timers remember the 20 plus years of profit being creamed off, with little or no investment back in to us hence the state many of our delivery offices our in now.

Well said!
As I said earlier: when it was first reported. I, and many of my Collegues were very concerned about the sudden anouncement of refresher training. We now know that, that was an attempt to avoid another accident, and NOT because they hadn't bothered to do it in the first place.cantypeANDSHOUTS wrote:i think weve heard enough bs from the knock royal mail group in this thread.none of which is based on any factsaxeman wrote:Perhaps others have a broader view point not one which favours royal fail and belives all the hype that spills out of old st .......
There is too much of this "us and them" attitude generally. Not just on here, but at Work as well. There are a lot of problems caused by mismanagement (in my opinion). But that DOES NOT MEAN THAT EVERY PROBLEM IS CAUSED BY IT!
The manager has been cleared in a Court of Law. Therefore, he DID NOTHING WRONG. And neither did RM. Give the poor guy a break, please.

sorry Night Tonic , Letters always made a profit , Parcelfarce lost money , the RM GROUP Top Brass got some very good golden handshakes even though they'd blundered on Horizon and buying at great expense parcel companies which were later sold back for a tenner .Night Tonic wrote:Actually thats incorrect. Leighton got an agreement to put a penny on stamps as there had been a price freeze for a few years and" suddenly" there was no more temporary losses in letters , as the Guardian said " lots of spin & hype but little delivery " .Most of the so called figures are the result of legal but "creative ' accounting .
If I remember rightly the temporary losses in letters were due to paying up all those managers up after the non jobs for the boys thing in the 90's . There was 17 layers of management which went down to 14 . Leighton's ideal model would be the Walmart 3 layer , i.e. Cluster of DO's , super DUM's , no linos , team leaders etc .
Sorry but I'd take RM spin with sacks of salt .
MURDERERS. Need to dispose of a body? Simply parcel it up and post it to yourself via DHL. You will never see it again.

Letter have always made a profit, what you're getting confused about is social mail which costs more than the 30 odd pence it costs but that was always balanced by the commercial mail which was cheaper to handle (the DSA targets)cantypeANDSHOUTS wrote:cantypeANDSHOUTS wrote:20 years outta 350 wow you proved me wrongfatherchristmas wrote:Dear cantypeandshout for your info previous to mr Leighton and co This Public Service made a healthy profit from which the government took large slices to fund other government services us so called old timers remember the 20 plus years of profit being creamed off, with little or no investment back in to us hence the state many of our delivery offices our in now.
