But when a run comes up for grabs because someone has left i think that person should be on the same pay as the person who has been doing it for a lifetime..
It is how I went from PT to FT back in the day. I applied for a FT round that nobody else wanted, or had less seniority, and was made up in hours to fit the duty.

We do have a finish time. Overtime is by no means compulsory.

Let me try to give an example. Legacy Postie and New Postie come to work. Legacy Postie finds he has barely anything for his walk - 40-odd tracked, most of which are postable, tiny bundles of mail with perhaps a 20% call rate, no specials. He is rubbing his hands with glee. He knows he can call this a day’s work anyhow.

New Postie on the other hand comes in to a similar workload to Legacy Postie. Instead, he is told that as it is a light day he will be expected back from his walk for his afternoon parcels at 1.00 pm instead of 2.30 pm and will be given 40 more parcels than usual. As he is scanning and loading up his afternoon parcels, he is watching his legacy colleagues all standing idle when they should.

Need to be clear, this isn’t my complaint, but it is a big gripe of my new-entrant colleagues who do a “mid shift” (those whose walk is prepped for them, meaning they go straight out on delivery upon starting, meaning their whole working day is pretty much outdoor delivery).
But who has prepped the walk for the 'mid shift'? A legacy colleague who started earlier?

Management should also ensure the 'legacy' is gainfully employed.

Yes, it’s prepped by someone else (it could have been prepped by either a legacy-contract or new-entrant colleague).

The rub seems to be that for those on signed-for/fixed duties, aside from the lapsing plan (which at the moment is out the window at our gaff), management seem to lack the authority to instruct those legacy staff who are having a light day/week/month/year to help pick up the slack elsewhere, and/or the level of assistance that is very reluctantly and unwillingly provided from those people in some cases is woefully inadequate, those people taking the view anything extra they do is going above and beyond.

Maybe you are a shoo-in for that type of job at your specific DO then lol. :left:

It certainly isn't the authority that they are lacking

Are you pointing your finger at every legacy postie in every delivery office?

Seems your issue has nothing to do with equalisation, just bitterness towards legacy contract posties and your DO

Shall I start reeling the lazy arse s**t new contracts do, and get away? (me looking at 2 weeks of D2Ds under my fitting after annual leave)

Are you a union member, if so, what does your rep have to say about the seemingly unfair way new posties are being treated in your own DO? In my DO we are all treated the same, legacy and non legacy, although we do have a reputation of being one of the better run DO's in our region.

Who the hell gets to finish an hour early???? Not a chance at our DO, we all have the same finish time
That will undoubtedly be the case. But bet it doesn’t stop the usual culprits being back 40 minutes or more prior thereto. I counted 7 hours of potential labour stood idly by the SISO stand (the SISO PDA itself having been removed to stop early scanning out) waiting for clocking-out time on Friday just gone. New-contract posties are sent out with a single loop of lapsing in a far-flung corner of the patch even with that amount of time remaining, yet some legacy-contract posties are seemingly able to stand around/hide in vans on paid company time.
How do you know they are back 40 minutes or more?

And if you stood and counted the labour stood idly, what were you doing?
I was busy setting up the bullring for the afternoon parcel sort with said posties were physically getting in the way hence my doing some mental gymnastics

Funny how it's new drivers that are the whiney f***s lately. All very entitled too :Boo hoo!

450 staff? Yeah, sure
[/quote]

Wtf does “yeah sure” mean - are you really that - ignorant to think I’m lying !!!

There’s over 400 contract staff plus over 25 agency staff at the moment

And I’ve not moaned about f/all - it’s my choice to do the job

I have no idea why people are doubting you to be honest, but then we have members who seem to get off on causing trouble. There are offices with 1000+ staff in them, so no idea why anyone who query your numbers.
