How come royal mail knows the age of the person the parcel being delivered to and manager complaining to the postie that he has put a fake age in this case as 1960 as birth date.
Thanks

Yeah, the booze is obvious but there's no way that many people are buying knives everyday unless we're willing to entertain the notion that 80% of all purchases of bladed weapons are actually mystery shoppers hired to get delivery personnel fired. It'll turn out knife crime mostly exists on paper.
On which note, we were told RM are now telling recipients in their 'Out for Delivery' messages to have their child answer the door to test us.
The machine stops.

Lots of different types of knives.Mr Rush wrote: ↑09 Sep 2025, 19:06Yeah, the booze is obvious but there's no way that many people are buying knives everyday unless we're willing to entertain the notion that 80% of all purchases of bladed weapons are actually mystery shoppers hired to get delivery personnel fired. I bet very few AV items, but the last three have been (according to the customer at the door), kitchen knives, a putty knife and a whittling knife.
Cooking, DIY and crafts.
While I can't imagine many other reasons for needing a 'knife' the definition of knife that falls within the legislation is much broader than what many might consider

A cheese grater needs a age verification, I kid you not.

Re: Serious for delivering age verification
If a kid wants to get hold of a knife then they could just go in the kitchen and get one. It's not likely that what normally is done in a moment of rage should instead involve a kid going on Amazon and buying a knife then waiting for delivery.and then going and stabbing someone. Unless they a psychopath, in which case there's other things they could use, a cheese grater for example.

Re: Serious for delivering age verification
They are not working for RM they are employed by random companies to test if they get the service they pay for from various different retailers and couriers
Friends wife did it for a while a few years back when it was mainly going into shops and checking product placement and customer service, since online shopping has taken over it's changed

I imagine companies sending AV items like nail clippers are just erring on the side of caution so they don't get into trouble.

The reason for the age verification is serious enough that some way of ensuring that procedure is correctly being followed makes more sense than nonsense to me
If they do it with test letters and they used to do it with door to doors then it’s not outside the realms of possibility they do it with these items that if not done correctly could lead to lawsuits given the reason behind the verification
They might not do it at all but I 100% don’t think anyone believing they do is being silly - I think it’s silly to assume they don’t do it tbh

Re: Serious for delivering age verification
I recently delivered some plastic toddlers cutlery for a two year olds birthday party. Had to do age verification. On the mother not the two year old obviously although he did inform me that it was his for his birthday. Must be just the word knife appearing in the description
