That’s exactly what I thought too, DO’s sold off for prime development then rent a warehouse inbetween 6 DO’s that have been sold & fill it with benches so you all have a bench each to sort your mail in boxes etc… then office 1 & 2 leaves for delivery then office 3 & 4 start prepping their walksort boxes on the bench etc… no delivery frames or personal space, no callers… sort your walk into bundles & drive out…
That was the ultimate plan that I heard on the grapevine… all speculation of course

Am I right to infer that all those lamenting the managed decline of callers’ offices haven’t themselves endured the misery of having to attend there on your one day off work to find it either closed or, almost as bad, a snaking queue out the door and round the corner as the lone member of staff has got distracted in chitchat for 15 minutes with another postie while away hunting for a parcel?? Give me an automated parcel locker, safe place or delivery to neighbour anytime!

Do a lot of office still have their callers office open for most of the day?

Didn't that already happen in the mid 90s? The old GPO buildings were vacated and units merged into cookie-cutter leased grey warehouses. Roughly conterminous with the introduction of the RM2000 frames.

The ultimate plan of the last decade, if you believe the wild stories repeated on here, was artics directly feeding frameless mega-DOs. Picture an Evri staff car park in December.

they got rid of our callers years ago works quite well shown they werent needed after all, would save money getting rid of callers people they get paid to do very little and must get bored in the office while the postman are out working hard all the time
You’re an idiot mate.
We have callers/indoor staff that work very hard. It’s funny that when one of our “working hard all the time” postmen are put inside on ‘light’ duties, they suddenly recover as they can’t hack working indoors. It’s not as easy as they were led to believe. Also many of them are too thick to grasp the admin/computer work that a lot of our indoor staff do.
I will admit though that we have a couple of very lazy indoor staff. They are under OH and the management are too incompetent to know how to deal with them.

Because it is mind-numbingly boring

postman rushed off their feet all day can't catch a breath, as for the callers there isnt enough work for them to do, they have time to talk to people, sit about , especially now with majority of the parcels been delivered 1st time , i really dont see what these guys do all day, instead of expanding walks on poor posties, they really need to find other ways to save money like having bringing these guys on the callers out as posties give them some work to do since, they dont have much of a remit to last an hour

In the days of job and finish the distinction was acute. Outdoor: set amount of work and if you got it done early then great. Indoor: irregular flow of people coming into the CSP and you can't lock up till closing time.

I did a single day in the locker with zero training and found the experience jack-knifed from intensely boring waiting for a member of the public to walk in to stressful when I couldn't find said member of the public's packet because half the office can't write a P739 card properly. I'm not sure if it was better or worse than what my day was supposed to entail: prepping D2D for the whole office :Sick
