A few random questions

Out and about doing a bit of walking in recent days (yes, I'm getting prepared! ) and I've started to notice the amount of signs on people's doors for attention of posties. "No Junk mail, please post letters for here next door" and so on. What is the situation in these sort of circumstances? I would guess we carry on as normal unless they've signed up for the mail preference thing or in the case of people wanting stuff posted next door, redirection? What other common signs are there?

Also, your walks. They mention on the advertisements for jobs that you'll be walking 6-8 miles a day but does that include dead walking or walking up steps in flats or between driveways etc? Is time allowed for all of that and how often are the walks tested?

Finally, sorting. I've seen mention on here about occasional tests of your sorting speed. Does this mean a certain speed is required when sorting and if so, what are they looking for?

Legally - you should not post any mail except to the address on the envelope unless you have a specific instruction telling you otherwise. Redirections and frame notices. Junk mail usually refers to Door Doors and again you should deliver anyway. There is an opt out process that the householders should follow. However, once you have your own round you get to know people on it and its ultimately up to you if you want to risk your job and follow their instructions. Other signs not many you have it just about covered. Just thought of one like asking for packets to be put in Green Bin outside lav etc.

Yes it covers everything but some walks are longer in distance than others, but have fewer houses, some are shorter in distance but have more houses, its all a bit of a muchness. I used a pedometer and my walk comes out at 9.6 miles and 600+ houses.

There are various threads but don't let it worry you. You wont be tested till you have been doing the job for a fair amount of time, or they think you are going to slow. Also the speed required will be explained but it is different depending on the type of frame you work at. I have never been either walk tested or sort tested my face must fit.

my walk is under 4 miles in distance but that doesnt include the stairs in all the tenements

Post mail as addressed and if there is a sign "LEAVE PARCELS NEXT DOOR", ignore it - 739 and take it back, and never door step it. It would save RM loads in redundancy money. Protect your job pal it ain't worth it

Never obey a customers note unless you have a special instruction for it in the office. I tell my customers just to tell them in the office then that keeps all of us right.
