MOSCOW, April 21 (Xinhua) -- Russia and Georgia on Monday resumed postal service that has been blocked out for 17 months, news agencies reported.
The Russian Post has resumed postal communication with the Georgian Post on Monday, Itar-Tass cited Sergei Grigorenko, Board Chairman for public relations and contacts with the mass media of the Russian Post.
Russian post offices will accept and deliver airmail to Georgia while money remittance will be resumed simultaneously with postal exchange for fares charged in accordance with international tariffs, Grigorenko said.
Russia suspended postal service with Georgia in October 2006, on the side lines of trade embargo and transport blockade which were fuelled by arrays of disputes between Moscow and Tbilisi.
The two states have resumed air and marine links in March after voices from both sides to improve bilateral ties.
