It wasn’t as black and white as some people would like it to have been.
By that I mean it wasn’t a straight vote on ‘Do you want to lose D2D money’ Tick yes or no.
Yep, nobody wanted to lose d2d money, it was part of a wider deal.
The other thing people forget is that they had to be prepped and delivered* in your own time. 3 sets of D2D would take you around 3 hours and you'd get £30 for it.
*Back in the days of Job and Knock, 99% of people could absorb that 3 hours into their weekly hours no problem. Now they are part of workload.
With inflation and duty size increases you'd probably get £45 for them now and do 50% more. I don't know how many people would sign up for that money for 4 hours plus work.

Sorry mate, million % wrong, never have we ever had to prep them in our own time.
If YOU had to at your place, then chin the rep who was in place at that time.
I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been. My BFF Clash The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Must have been an area thing then. We had plenty staff who 'opted out' of doing them and a) they weren't given extra work to do, and b) the person doing them had to do them in their own time.
My memory might be fading, but i'm also sure we had to sign a sheet each week to say we had done 'x' amount and what the payment would be. Any overtime claimed was scrutinised to make sure it wasn't the D2D prep or delivery that caused the OT.

We had d2d barons who would do them on other rounds, some earned fortunes, I used to take mine home to prep if I had 3 or more.
Prepping of door to doors were done in your own time, that’s why you got paid for them. When the payment was taken away it became part of your daily/weekly workload. The delivery supplement is nothing to do with door to doors.
It was possible to do them in 'work' time because you had the time to do them. Just as you had time to finish early.
If they were solely to be prepped in Royal Mail 'time' then why were we given payment per item?
Why would the company give them as paid work to prep (say 2hrs out of your 40 hour week), then pay you again per item.
If that's the case then it's little wonder they wanted to absorb it into paid workload.
Part of the deal when they stopped the old d2d payments was to get more Saturdays off, a few years later they took away that 'sweetner' anyway.
Being part-time on a huge route, it wasn't a great deal for me.

It's well before my time but I'm assuming the extra payment was introduced at the same time as d2ds were, I know they were originally called household deliveries, I'll ask in the office tomorrow we've got a couple of 40 years guys they might remember when they started I'd have thought it wasn't before they started at RM.

I did my first stint at RM 86/87.
They were a new thing then.
That's not to say other areas might have started later or earlier.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

That would be news to me. The only 'sweetner' was a pay rise then. Nobody cared about working Saturday's 20 years ago, 12 o'clock finishes across the board.?

Oh, I agree. I used to love Saturday because it was the earliest finish of the week. However, the 2010 agreement paved the way for normalising Saturday hours with Monday to Friday. Hence, the demand for more Saturdays off. It's so much more worse now, so when I hear about how the ODM will give us more Saturdays off I bloody well expect to get more than the same old 1-in-6 this time.

PT 25+ years ago - 840am earliest I ever finished on a Tuesday

Sounds like you started about the same time as me, I remember those Tuesdays, finished early enough to wait outside a post office to open at 9 so I could "pouch off" and get the bus home.
Oh yeah and at the time I got told how much better it was in the good old days
My claim to fame (well, one of them anyway) was that I broke the news on the site because a certain someone told me on the phone that the agreement had just been ratified by the PEC.
That was a fun couple of days afterwards.
Please can you post a link to the new pay deal regarding loss of d2d/ delivery supplement.
