Fail the USO, pay the fines, understaff offices and just send a few people out to make sure rounds are cleared at least once a week there’s your savings. If they aren’t prepared to do that just leave it be.

Cutting Saturday second class would give them some savings and they should just start by doing this.

Another thing, why is it such an important goal of the CWU to promise people they can do the same route every day?
It's an indirect committment to retaining seniority. Some people like the variety of being a floater but very few enjoy being a reserve forever, and having your own duty chosen via seniority was introduced decades ago for very good reasons (boosting staff retention, maintaining reliable service, etc). Abandoning it means embracing the churn.
The machine stops.

Plus pick up £1,000+ in Xmas tips if you're lucky enough to have one of the better duties in the office?

There is so much crap on this site, but this is one of the best threads I’ve read.
There are people on here talking so much sense.
3 into 4, ODM, whatever you want to call it. Would only work and make the savings required if we were operating properly in the first place.
The Sphinx has been lied to. Coms lie to Doms. Doms lie to area and on it goes, right to the top.
There are no more savings to make on the front line.
Where we go from here I don’t know. But there are people on this thread who should be running things, not the idiots we have now.
The Sphinx, or his people, need to read this.
In my humble opinion.

Looking from an outsider (600 driver) these comments are exactly what I have observed over the last few years.
I wondered just how far the cuts to delivery would go, certainly never imagined to the point of constant failure.
But I also ask myself how much say did this Sphinx have leading up to the takeover?
Either way I don’t think delivery will ever get to the point of providing a 1st class service again.
Excellent post tho.

It’s management that they should be looking at. Fookers on 45k+ a year, we sometimes have five in our office, no need to have that many, we have 100 posties so no more than two are needed. If they looked at this across the board, they would instantly save millions.

Yeah definitely, the amount of 'managers' could certainly be trimmed down, I'll tell you what though and I know it won't be a popular thing to say but I reckon the Dom support person is also well outdated ours does what could easily be done by the manager within their working time, think duty rosters, sorting annual leave etc, I might be old fashioned but I think there should be a proper manager in charge rather than a team leader type of person who would end up being either the office coach or cwu rep if not the same person, totally agree though there's currently far too many managers in delivery offices.

If they sacked one manager per office they would save over £1m a day the magic number! It’s certainly achievable.

And in MCs. In both MCs and DOs RM should have just one manager who deals with all the paperwork, with a Team Leader for each section.

Yeah, I agree but not the team leader idea and not because it's a good thing, it is however in royal mail the selection process would be flawed it would be the biggest brownnoser/office coach/cwu rep who got the position but yes in theory good idea just wouldn't work in this shitole.

Team leader part time role 7-10 5 days a week 15 hours would save a fortune
