Devils advocate, but what happens if RM just starts to implement ODM over the next couple of weeks, what happens then?
Headcount already being reduced, vertical frames in, stickers in place, they’re just waiting for the signal

They’re playing us

Hang on, they had to put 50 duties back in? 50?!?!?!?!?

And still no clearing! Like, WTAF!

As mentioned earlier the savings can no longer come from cutting front line staff numbers. Parcels and even letters are up! They would have to just pay the ofcom fines in lieu of employing the staff they need.

Another thing, why is it such an important goal of the CWU to promise people they can do the same route every day?
They would like you conpletely flexible to go and deliver whatever is needed that day. We were told months ago expect not to have your 'own duty' anymore. Thats before it bombed

In my opinion if you don't have your own duty why would you or anyone work harder or work past your time to clear it if it's not yours or your on a different one next day.Taking duty holder's away will be one of the biggest mistakes they will ever make.People won't even try and deliver households for a duty that's not theirs.

100%

If you’re on the same duty you build up a rapport with the customers and feel more obliged to helping them receive their mail.

Absolutely.i know the old days of going above and beyond are past us but if I didn't have my own run and knew I was getting moved everyday I'd be cutting off all the time finishing on my time.Getting moved everyday isn't as easy as it was year's ago.New start's have it way harder than we did year's ago.

My office is in the same area as Stockton, we had a union meeting and was told, since the trials started first class went from 10 letters a day to over 80 per frame.

But under any sort of Optimised Delivery, you aren’t going to be doing the exact same route every day. 2 different routes chopped up depending on what day it is, perhaps. There is zero savings to be made keeping the status quo - something we have been told HAS to happen.
It’s folly of the CWU to say we can all stay the same

re not doing your own duty, it will be a car crash if the majority don't do same duty day in day out as stated above,
i'd add that the parcels brought back would massively increase,
i along with almost everyone hide stuff where we shouldn't, and signs for stuff and post it, all that will stop,
retention office would need to be bigger, extra staff in there to book them in/out, vans half full with yesterdays parcels before you even start on todays
then the management will be crying about first time delivery not working

People are overthinking it, under the Ahmed Bob Evie bollocks you were on the same 4 duties in a group of 3 people but it's not as though you'd be on something different everyday like comments on this thread are suggesting, the only folk on different duties would be reserves just like it is now.

Exactly. Think of it like working in the same area, doing different parts of 2 different shared vans, walking and where applicable, driving. That's up to 4 different duties and we do it all the time, there is practically ZERO up-skilling involved. People constantly saying 'everyone is to be made reserves' does no good and frankly makes people sound unwilling to change in any way.

What your manager meant to say was that Royal Mail thought there were only 10 first class letters but in reality there were 80 :arrrghhh :arrrghhh
