Re: Alternative to the ODM
When are we finding out what this new proposed method entails?

When Ward Walsh and the grand elders deem us worthy enough of knowing. It could be some time yet.Acca Dacca wrote: ↑11 Aug 2025, 13:07When are we finding out what this new proposed method entails?

Does anyone know what the ‘Australian method’ is?

Essentially round gets bigger but split into 2 halves. 1st half is all products. 2nd half would be tracked and 1c only for us I'm guessing. Next day it switches so the first half of your round you do tracked and 1c only and 2nd half you do all mails.
Not dissimilar to the hare brained scheme RM came up with.

Doesn't mention Saturdays on the Australian site. I expect they dropped letters on Saturday years ago.

Don’t think they do Saturday letters in Australia.

Re: Alternative to the ODM
Sounds very similar to what was originally proposed...
From the snippets of information that have come out of the pilot offices, was there ever an issue/difficulty with staff adapting to the 'method change'?
The reason I'm asking is because they seem to be now offering the chance to just stay on your own duty and not perform parts of another one - which again poses more questions as to where the savings are then.

From rumors this sounds very similar to what could be around the cornerjessicarabbit wrote: ↑11 Aug 2025, 14:38https://auspost.com.au/content/dam/ausp ... raphic.pdf

Thanks everyone, I’m guessing you have heard similar whispers to me then? The drawing is a lot clearer than the Royal Mail handout
As with every method, they all need to be preceded by a full and proper revision. Just adding a couple more loops to every round regardless didn’t work for the last lazy/desktop revision and won’t work now.

Between flipping sides since 2020 and the botched revisions in 2021/22, isn't this even less dissimilar to what we've been doing for ages now? The only difference would be ending all-product delivery on Saturday, which we are specifically told is not enough on its own.jessicarabbit wrote: ↑11 Aug 2025, 14:38https://auspost.com.au/content/dam/ausp ... raphic.pdf

Re: Alternative to the ODM
If they do it first without adding extra loops and give everyone every other Saturday off. Then year 2 do a proper revision with some real world data it could be a much easier pill to swallow rather than try and go for the full 300 mil savings in year 1

Is this just a postman's theory or what you think might be planned?CharlesG wrote: ↑24 Jul 2025, 21:04There is some move in pilot offices moving to groups of 6 rather than groups of 4.
In effect this means that on combined duties where only taking parcels you would take two full walks tracked and 1c in groups of 4, and on heavy days you would be tasked to take a full walk and half a walk plus 1c, this is groups of 6.
I would think the light days would be Mon - Tues
Heavy days Weds - Fri
Still ongoing issues with core duties (taking all mail on walk plus parcels) as still struggling with the extra workload plus D2D with only 24 mins added to duty length , the only reasonable way to deal with this is to add additional duties.
And RM potential savings only go lower and lower, as its not the one size fits all 1000+ DOs that they were expecting !
That idea sounds a mess this group of 6 and a bit of a complicated nightmare and again waiting to fail if one or two in your group goes on sick. Also how would that work with annual leave if two in your group take a week in the year that you also want?! Seems to me that the group needs to be like clockwork for it to be successful

Re: Alternative to the ODM
Working in groups of 3 or 4 or even 6 etc etc seems hideously over complicated and doomed to fail.
1 person, 1 route, 1 frame per person - side A and B, just like that Australian model. Rotate each day.
It's been working like that for years in DO's all over the country, with agency/temp staff in over Christmas.

I can see how it might make sense and agree it has been happening for the last 5 years but fucksake is that not the epitome of f***ing over everybody, employees and customers alike, for the sake of year on year profit for the owners?Perseus wrote: ↑11 Aug 2025, 17:32Working in groups of 3 or 4 or even 6 etc etc seems hideously over complicated and doomed to fail.

Late stage Capitalism is in full effect at RM and you have to wonder when something like this will tip over into a modern French revolution situation.

A revolution due to adding a day or 2 onto the delivery of 2nd class mail?SkiSunday wrote: ↑11 Aug 2025, 18:00I can see how it might make sense and agree it has been happening for the last 5 years but fucksake is that not the epitome of f***ing over everybody, employees and customers alike, for the sake of year on year profit for the owners?Perseus wrote: ↑11 Aug 2025, 17:32Working in groups of 3 or 4 or even 6 etc etc seems hideously over complicated and doomed to fail.
