A POSTAL worker was dismissed after stealing a cash card to buy cigarettes and alcohol.

James Lee Jones, of Ryelands Street, Whitecross, Hereford, was employed by Royal Mail on a casual basis when he took the card from a customer letter on January 5 and spent around £200.

The 19-year-old, who was living in Clyro and working in the Hayon-Wye area at the time, pleaded guilty to four charges brought against him by the company at Brecon Magistrates’ Court, relating to the theft of a postal packet and obtaining money with the card.

Roland Wooderson, prosecuting, told magistrates Jones had been employed for two weeks when a customer complained their bank card had gone missing.

It transpired Jones would have delivered it.

Mr Wooderson said the card was with a few letters left at the end of Jones’ shift and he used it about five times both in Hay and Hereford.

Bruce Gray, defending, said everybody, including Jones, accepted that Royal Mail must be trusted and the defendant had made full admissions to the offences involved.

He said Jones had never offended before and had experienced personal difficulties after moving to Clyro with his parents.

A relationship with his girlfriend broke down, he was bullied and attacked by a group of boys from Hay and had lost his gardening job after his employers moved away.

Mr Gray said the offence was a “momentary blipâ€

All i will say is it worth the aggravation when all he wanted was CIGARTTES AND ALCOHOL or is just my imagination?.
