A 'job & finish' setup would mean reducing manager numbers.
You have a duty, 1 days' mail, no lapsing, you just come in and do it and go home. You are paid to clear your duty for the day.
-No time wasted discussing workload with managers.
-Toxic working environment gone instantly.
-Retention rates dramatically increased.
-Manager headcount reduced.
-Work gets cleared.
-Why even give managers bonuses when the workforce will naturally clear it themselves.
I would not be surprised if you could take a lot of what a line manager does and just give that to someone else to do part time for £20,000 a year, and just have 1 or 2 'head managers', no line managers.
I would assume something like this is what Dave Ward's plan for cutting the number of managers and letting us manage ourselves.
This job and finish idea is the best option that I can come up with for fixing a lot of issues at Royal Mail.

Wow, you must be slow at your job - finishing at 6pmPerseus wrote: ↑03 Aug 2025, 20:44Are you ok with working to 6pm in the winter months?norris9 wrote: ↑03 Aug 2025, 20:32A 'job & finish' setup would mean reducing manager numbers.

If the jobs are sensibly sized and your office has a sensible start time then you should not be out until 6pm unless you are inept at your job.
Even if it was deemed that days were too long over the 3 to 4 week busy period at Xmas, then you can simply put a rule in place of taking no more than 60 Tracked parcels and get some Xmas parcel drivers in.
At the end of the day - for any new way of working there needs to be set rules which are adhered to so that it actually works fairly. If not - it will be the same old, same old here at Royal Mail....a shizshow.

lol, you can't be serious with this 'job and finish' talk you persist with. And in reply, you must do a very easy duty to want to bring back 'job and finish'. All that some offices have these days is a start and finish time - without a finish time, they would be out until a few hours after that with your system. None of this 12:30pm finishes on a Saturday etc where we work.norris9 wrote: ↑03 Aug 2025, 20:46Wow, you must be slow at your job - finishing at 6pmPerseus wrote: ↑03 Aug 2025, 20:44Are you ok with working to 6pm in the winter months?norris9 wrote: ↑03 Aug 2025, 20:32A 'job & finish' setup would mean reducing manager numbers.

Some offices finish at 3pm up until 4:30pm these days and can't complete due to duty size, but you appear to want them to finish the duty?
If you can job and finish a few hours early each day, would you be ok with only getting paid for the hours you work? Because that's where it would ultimately lead.
I re-read your edited post above and it now contains more info about taking 60 tracked parcels a day when it's busy at Xmas. Our shared vans get on average 250 tracked per day over the 6 week period.

What would be the point of having a contract
Or would suggest self employed

Re: Uso agreement
Absolutely. You might as well offer to sign a zero hours contract if you want job and finish to return in a big way.
Offering to take 60 packets maximum and the company will gladly accept then say, ok, we will pay you 'x' amount per parcel.
Next day you only have 20 parcels........
Gig economy here we come.
