How do people typically give their notice? verbally? a letter? an email? Do you also inform your CWU rep?

Maybe an email to the manager + CWU rep is the best way to do it then it's properly recorded and evidenced. Can't trust a manager with verbal notice.

A letter to the manager, handed to them if possible, no need to tell the CWU as it is nothing to do with them - it is between you and your employer.

So I handed my notice in as I left to go on holiday. Not heard a thing other than the standard leavers pack from hr. Nice thanks after 23+ years.

New jobs slightly longer days but has the old parts of the job, time to speak to people and make a difference.

I did just over 40 years. I'd certainly had enough. Did Christmas 2020, went in December 27th and handed my notice in. I think the manager was pleased, I wasn't what you'd call a manager's pet. 'One man awkward squad' one of his predecessors called me.
My last day of service was January 6th 2021. No thanks, no fanfare, no f**k all.

New starter arrived at 8am at DO I was at, went for a pee at 9am & never returned, lasted an hr.
This is no more than a repeatable theme at RM now.
Quality of service will never improve under these conditions.

Not really sure what people expect when they give notice? You have a number & that's all you are to Royal Mail, a number, if you think they are remotely bothered you are leaving you are deluded, in a weeks time it will be "John Who?" ....... Fact :wave

I don’t know what’s in it for the company when they treat people in such a way that they only stay a few days or a few hours. If they don’t get their act together they won’t have anyone left.

It is the new business model for RM just like Amazon and the rest
