Correct me if Im wrong. Latest Cwu live says ODM isn't working, 3 into 4 isn't going ahead. Trial offices will be given the option to go into a new trial of new delivery method which they haven't releases the specifics of yet.

I wonder if they will trial it in other offices. And will the current pilot offices have to revert to the 'old' ways.

Heads should roll for this calamity, both RM and CWU

3 into 4 is no more, they are presenting a new ODM to the PEC on Monday, hopefully we should find out what it is next week.

If the work isn't getting completed with 4 people doing 4 duties then it doesn't take a rocket surgeon to work out that 3 people cannot do the 4 duties. The whole idea was doomed from the offset and the only surprise it wasn't done regardless of it's unreal stupidity.

I wonder if the COM/DOMs implementing the trials are getting more cash than the rest of them?

That's a different argument - and the reason why any office going into the ODM should be currently clearing every day, with equal and do-able duties, and have full staffing levels. It should have been insisted upon by the CWU. That's when you'd see any possible savings. We have a few offices in our area that are like that.
Anyone saying that in those circumstances a version of the ODM wouldn't work is in denial.

In reality, many offices are short staffed, not had a proper revision in years (decades, maybe?), are short on driving staff (the elephant in the room to make the shift patterns work) and crucially so low in morale that nothing will work.

It sounds to me that they are going to come back with a watered down version of this ODM, maybe all items Mon-Wed-Fri and packets and 1C only Tues/Thur/Sat.

Im going to guess it will be some sort of more extreme longs and shorts ( hour+ difference rather than 10-15 minutes )

A shorter day doing both walks van sharing only 1st class and parcels and then doing everything the next on a long day

Mon - long
Tue - short
wed - long
thurs - short
fri - long
sat - short

How much can be saved from doing that I dont know but I guess the savings from the current 3 into 4 doesnt matter as it doesnt work
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next

Dave Ward and Martin Walsh want our opinions on how we can improve Royal Mail....

Interesting that Dave wants to trial having no managers and having us posties manage ourselves. He must be an avid lurker of these forums and have picked up on some of my comments.

We don't need as many managers. We just need sensible sized duties depending on who you are and how many hours you want to work each day. Some may want big rounds and more work, some may want less work as they don't need the money and don't want to be as fatigued...

We should come into a duty that is of a size we are all individually happy with and simply work under 'job and finish' rules.

As long as we never have 2 days mail and jobs are always covered - this can work. Maybe at Xmas we'd need an allocation of parcels taken off us....

and hey presto.... we have gotten rid of 60%+ of managers. Gotten rid of toxic culture. Gotten rounds we are all happy with the size of.

Weren't we told that it was either this new way of working or the only alternative would be a move to a 3 day USO?

We certainly don't need as many managers but you definitely need someone overseeing an office, unfortunately not everybody is capable of working unsupervised and issues would soon occur

Royal Mail would save a packet trimming the amount of managers they employ. You could start by getting 3 of them to do the work of 4 and go from there :chuckle
